Cheers, Neffets! I'll be honest; I was worried that the control scheme wouldn't translate well for me because other isometric games I play are different. So far, it's only really bothering me in the underwater sections.
If all goes well this weekend, be on the lookout for a new co-op submission from chessjerk and me. :)
Reviving this thread in the wake of Oreb7's run, particularly as it pertains to Proposal 1. Looks like there is absolutely justification to update at least the podium runs to milliseconds, as Oreb7's run and Tecate's run appear to only have a difference of one frame. We will need to settle on exactly which frame to look for as t=0. When I looked at the top 3 runs, I set t=0 as the frame before the black screen on the roster selection screen, and these are the times I got:
Oreb7: 2:02.817
Tecate: 2:02.833
ShesChardcore: 2:03.433
Wanted to make sure we are all on the same page before executing such a change, though.
Wanted to get a vibe on this. Pursuant to my previous note about removing the Glitched maxout category, I was wondering if I should also remove the "Glitchless" language from the remaining Maxout category since, at present, glitches don't impact this category in any material way. Thoughts?
I tried some maxout attempts tonight. Got to 715K once. It's super tough, as advertised.
Also, I'm going to remove specifically the GLITCHED maxout category, as current glitches make your score go slower, not faster. An optimal glitchless run and an optimal glitched run are effectively the same run (with current known strats). Happy to reinstate in the future if that changes.
Hi friends!
Any% No Major Glitches has been added to the leaderboard based upon the thread discussion.
Happy hunting!
Hi Dwedit! Thanks for letting us know about the official MAME support!
We were aware that the initial custom build had some slowdown, which you can see in some of the earliest runs. A revised custom build came out a week later that corrected the CPU speed, which you can see in more recent runs (including all of the current podium times at the very least).
I just installed the new MAME version and can confirm that the game plays exactly like the 2nd custom build that we have been playing on for a bit now.
Hooray for official support! Hopefully more runners will come!
Run approved.
I love that my heart raced at SEVERAL times in World 3 while watching this run. Even though the title says "Damageless," I still bit on close calls like 3 or 4 times. Well done, Zetorux! Amazing run!
Okay, the "Any% Damageless" category has been added. Here is what I put for the rules:
SDA timing: Start on character control and end when you leave the Medusa screen. Taking damage or dying for any reason invalidates the run.
Rule should be simple but complete. Hopefully this covers any potential loopholes.
Have fun y'all!
The important question now is: why does the glitch stop working after 2 loops, and is there any way to get it work again?
LMAO fair enough! Glitched versions for all! LETS GO!
These are indeed amazing finds, and I fully support maintaining the current categories as "Glitchless" with updated rulesets disallowing the Pause Glitch and the Backwards Lap Glitch, and then making a new category/categories that permit them.
For now, I will make a 1-Loop Glitched category. Please let me know if there is interest in 3-Loop and Nice% first, as I feel like that could be tedious, but if there's interest, I'm not going to stop the community from pursuing it. :)
