The leaderboard says to stop after the credits stop rolling (which is strange, since you can actually skip the credits), but the guide says that the timer stop once all the students initiate the shutdown sequence. Which one do I use?

Hi! I just recently began running this game, and I was wondering when I am supposed to split after each individual level. Do I do it as soon as I get the star? When the "Level Completed" shows up? Or when the screen goes to black? Or is there a different time for me to split after each level?
