So I've allowed emulator runs now. I've banned emulator up until this point due to the reason of the game still being pretty cheap to buy. But over the years, I've seen the game rise in price, so I don't want to discourage people from attempting to run this game just because they don't want to fork up a ton of money to get a proper copy of the game.

Enjoy and have it at!

Alright, so I see SpaceCow's run was done on emulator.

So it is time to have the emulator talk.

First off, I'll straight out say it, I think emu should be banned for the follow reasons

  1. It is faster then console (loads and your voice commands "load" quicker to Rio)
  2. It uses a third party microphone plugin for it to work
  3. Lifeline isn't a rare game, picking up a PS2 + Lifeline will cost you less then 100 dollars.

I wouldn't mind emulator if the game was rare or that an IGT was used. I can knock down my run by a few mins just due to playing on emulator.

If you don't want to ban emulator and allow it, can you at least separate them into different categories like the Haunting Ground leaderboards. https://www.speedrun.com/hauntingground

Thanks

Well I guess it is finally time for the discussion of emulator.

So emulator has way faster loading times compared to the PSN or even the PS2 version.

Examples: Train leaving LLT for WDT PSN Version ~11 seconds () Emulator/PCSX2: ~6 seconds ()

Going from the park to LLT: PSN Version ~18 seconds () Emulator/PCSX2 ~12 seconds ()

For people who aren't aware, Chulip does a unique thing for loading screens and plays a cutscene of the transition: i.e. the train or playing dangerously near traffic.

I can go on, but won't. Over the course of a 2.5 hour run, emulator has an unfair advantage against console/original hardware. So because of this I am separating emu from console. I don't want to ban emulator because that would discourage people from picking up the game, despite the game being on PSN for 10 dollars, it is still a rare and obscure game to own.

Japanese text, I haven't looked into yet but will try to soon to see if it is actually quicker then english text.

If anyone has any opinions on the separation of emulator and console, let me know.

Thanks!

Name: msk160822 Difficulty: Normal His IGT is 2:08:42. RTA Time: 2:56:13 He does Japanese RTA rules, which doesn't matter since we use IGT.

I think he is done with the game/category, since he has moved onto other things now.

I have no clue if there are other runners of this game. Stiylemagnus (FF2 Japanese runner) has told me that he was the only active runner of FF2 and didn't mention anyone doing Wiimake when I asked.

Every other FF game uses IGT as a reference. RTA was the norm for Fatal Frame but I am switching everyone's times over to IGT.

There are some people who cut off their highlights/videos before IGT was displayed, so I'm just going to keep their RTA times up as a placeholder.

Will cross this problem down the road if and when more people speedrun this game.

Was watching some youtube videos when I saw youtube recommended me this video titled: HE Beat This Game In 30 minutes When It Took Me 30 HOURS!!

If you watch the start, he makes some really corny jokes, then talks about the video he is reacting to, gives the name of the runner and tells his "fans" to check out his other videos and his channel. He also gives a link to the original video at the bottom of the description after all his social media links.

So my question to everyone, are you ok with this? I know reaction videos are a hit or a miss among most people. The guy did credit DraQu, but do you feel like this is just stealing someone's content and just talking over it? Is he taking views away from DraQu, or is he helping new people discover DraQu's content on youtube?

After adding more categories to the first game, I forgot to add the same categories to the second game (NG+/All Class Trials).

Sorry about that, feel free to give them a shot if you are interested.

I'm also open to other categories.

For awhile, I've had emulated runs banned. A few days ago, I played this game on PCSX2 and realized how quick the load times are compared to the ps2. I mean they are super fast.

Usually I'd keep it banned, but because this game is so obscure and expensive to buy, I'll allow emulator runs. Please note emulator runs aren't really official, but have their own separate category. It is unfair to have emulated runs allowed but hidden, since you are taking your time to speedrun the game itself, you should at least be rewarded with a leaderboard.

If you really love this game and plan to speedrun it, maybe save up for an official copy in the future, but that is just my two cents.

If anyone has any opinions or even cares, feel free to post below.
