@mugg1991 yes, it's just the debug menu which basically is the same as using cheats and should not be called "trick" and not be used in a legit Any% category.

I mean you are literally accessing the debug mode with a special button combination ("At the 'Options' menu, highlight 'Text Speed', hold L + R + Up"). If you somehow managed to access the debug menu through ACE or a specific glitch then it would have been debatable for Any%. But this is simply using cheat codes to load maps.

I like how you are worried about pirating the PC version of the game and when I take a look at the leaderboard all PS1 runs are emulated anyways.

Well the category is any% and everyone who wants to compete in this category is free to choose the difficulty they want to play on. You can't have an any% category and then start to ban/forbid stuff (unless it's really necessary). I mean the difficult category is still there and won't be removed so you can still submit your difficult times there (I certainly won't stop running difficult). Right now we only have a difficult run with the fastest time because difficult has been grinded more since it was considered main category. But once we start to grind on easy more serious the times will be much lower and the top times will be all done on easy because easy will be always faster. Also we have some runners who have only done runs on difficult and their runs are automatically any% imo.

First of all I want to thank for the responses and your thoughts because these things should always be decided and discussed as community.

Now here is my proposition: The "Any% Easy" leaderboard will be renamed into "Any%" which will feature the fastest times of all the submitted runs regardless of its difficulty (I will manually transfer runs from the difficult leaderboard to the newly created "Any%" leaderboard if the times on the difficult leaderboard are faster). The "Any% Difficult" leaderboard will be untouched and it's still only allowed to submit runs which have been done on difficult (this will be more of a challenge category). That means as of right now Garadas will have WR in both categories.

Since we are doing changes for the Any% categories we should also discuss "Good ending (difficult)". Unfortunately I don't have a run up and I don't feel eligible to discuss that category but in my opinion we should scrap the "difficult" suffix and allow all difficulties on one leaderboard because Easy should be the fastest difficulty for that category as well. What do you think?

pld7 years ago

Should we rename the category from "Any% Easy" to just "Any%" and "Any% Difficult" will stay like it is?

@Endy

World Record will of course stay 9:19 by garadas even if we changed to easy as main :)

pld7 years ago

I have had some DuckTales 2 runners asking me if we could make "Any% Easy" the main category since it's faster than difficult. I have thought about it and there is in fact no real reason to keep difficult as main category because easy is the fastest way to complete the game.

@furrywulfz

I am doing it already for the games i am moderating (like here for example: http://www.speedrun.com/ngs/resources). I don't think bgb or gambatte have any characteristics that would make it easier to spot them. I know that the Pokemon community has a rule which requires you to capture the whole emulator with its borders but I am not quite sure if that's the best solution http://i.imgur.com/H7Wa1SJ.png

Well if you search for gb emulators on google VBA is the first emulator that is shown and I guess a lot of people don't bother to check if they are actually using an accurate emulator.

"If it was up to me, the moment you select VBA as an emulator option, the run should be denied with a message showing up why"

^This!

Of course people who want to cheat will simply lie and pick a different emulator so these runs will be sorted out manually but such an option would at least automatically filter out the "fair" submissions, i.e. people who really simply didn't know about VBA.

I really like Oh_Deer's idea and I would like to see the feature being implemented as it would make the work as gb moderator much easier.

@Cool2man

I would recommend to check this thread :) http://www.speedrun.com/Speedrunning/thread/4sdl9

I have discussed this with another mod and it would be only fair if we make that category since we already have a pacifit category. It won't be called "bad ending%" (since bad ending is not a number ;) ) but rather "bad ending" and it will be hidden under "misc categories" because we don't want to have a category bloat.

like evilclownattack already mentioned correctly, rules are not showing on default eventhough the option is enabled in the leaderboard settings

@kirkq Thank you, that's a long middle finger you are showing to the gb speedrun community who is caring about gb speedrunning and its accuracy. Just because the community is not as big as other communities does that mean we should not care about fair circumstances and we can use whatever we want? Sorry, that's not going to work neither in communities with hundreds of people nor in smaller communities with 30 people.

FYI it IS common knowledge that VBA is a bad emulator like ZSNES for SNES or NESticle for NES. You don't have to race on SRL to know these things (I have maybe raced 5 times in 2 years). Thanks for your time anyways.

EDIT: I informed both moderators at that time 2 months ago and it has not happened anything (http://www.speedrun.com/Tail_Gator/thread/hqmab).

Can I have super mod for the Tail' Gator leaderboard http://www.speedrun.com/Tail_Gator ? Currently there is no super mod for that leaderboard and the only normal mod and "WR holder" was using an inaccurate and banned gameboy emulator for his run (Visualboy Advance) and as gameboy speedrunner I would not feel comfortable with him as moderator when he does not even know which gb emulators are commonly accepted. Rules also haven't been defined yet which I would immediately. I am currently routing the game and will start doing runs as soon as possible.

You have only confirmed that you are a bad moderator, nothing more. It was already known for years that the SGB1 is running 2.4115% faster than a Super Gameboy 2 and the GBP (https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/Super_Game_Boy_timing).

The fact that you can't even properly spot a time difference in a 30 minutes comparison of emulators where I on the other hand could spot 4 seconds of difference in a ~7 minutes video of mine and the fact that you don't even know that the Super Gameboy 2 exists, prove that you should not moderate this or any other gb leaderboard. Not to mention the clusterfuck of a leaderboard you produced in the last couple of months with billions of categories eventhough the only thing you had to do was to ban VBA and make one leaderboard for all emulators (gambatte, bgb and bizhawk) and hardwares (SGB2 and GBP). By the way SGB1 times can easily be converted when you multiply the end time by 1.024115. There is no need to make a leaderboard for every emulator and every hardware in existence. Speedrunning is not only about beating a game as fast as possible but also about competition. How do you want to compete with others when you a) are running faster than anyone else because VBA and b) are separating one category in multiple leaderboards.

You know usually I am not mad at all about the VBA topic, shit happens, newcomers tend to overlook things and pick shitty emulators but what makes me mad is I told you back then when you started doing runs to switch from VBA to a more accurate emulator and you even did so. But soon after that you went back to VBA and kept telling everyone that there is no difference between VBA and other accurate emulators eventhough I sent you a comparison video back then which clearly proves that VBA is not a good emulator.

I have tested all emulators (again and exclusively for you Czar) with this game and there is only one acceptable answer for Token's question: YES, it should be banned!

Crrool, Deln, y Cronokirby les gusta esto

I don't like your sloppy timing method and therefore I made a more accurate one myself.

I have recorded the beginning of the game (the intro sequence) with 3 different emulators (VBA 1.8.0, bgb 1.5.1 and BizHawk 1.9.3 which uses Gambatte's core). All 3 emulators have been recorded via OBS @60 FPS.

The comparison video is timed from the first frame the navigation hand disappears in the menu until the first frame the hand appears on screen after all the dialogues.

Results:

VBA: frame 293 - frame 26077 = 25784 frames (07:09.440) bgb: frame 294 - frame 26320 = 26026 frames (07:13.460) bizhawk: frame 293 - frame 26320 = 26027 frames (07:13.470)

VBA is running 242/243 frames (or ~4 seconds) faster than the other 2 emulators in a 7 minutes and 13 seconds video.

Conclusion: Visualboy Advance is super inaccurate and should be banned forever from all classic GB and GBC games as it is running at higher frame rate (60 FPS) than a normal gameboy would run (59.73 FPS). Sorry but this emulator is simply not acceptable. By the way my comparison video shows only that VBA is running at higher frame rate and does not even show the inaccuracy in lag emulation which is another big issue of that particular emulator but the higher frame rate is reason alone to ban it ;)
