As far as I'm concerned, the category was always intended to be "100% Normal", not "100%". Would anyone object to me renaming it as such?

I own a hori GBP controller and personally, I much prefer using the SP. This is mainly due to the directions on the d-pad being more discrete. Your mileage may vary, and I'm sure it's possible to use the hori pad successfully, but that's my experience.

Hi. When I wrote the "file select" rule, I was actually counting chum's timing (from "Pinewood Heights") as selecting a file. I concede this is a bit misleading!

I don't really have any strong feelings about starting from "Pinewood Heights" vs starting from ball select. My usual philosophy is to start from the menu input that launches the game, but since in this case nothing happens in the game until your first input, it's really a moot point. Apologies for editing the timing on your runs. (I was also a bit confused by the 1 second offset you use when starting).

I don't think chum or midboss read this forum. Feel free to contact them if you want to get their perspective, but personally I'm fine with deferring to starting from ball select.

When I try to amend my notification settings for a followed game (Super Metroid) I get the below message:

I agree with lurk that No Warps/Warpless is probably a better name. I have no real opinion about separating up+a from deathwarps, but the fact that people are running the no up+a category would suggest there is some demand.

Loving the new accurate release dates! I would like to request the ability to put the day (and month?) as "blank" for unknown values.

It might be better to have deathless as the first of the 3 options, since it is still by far the most popular. Otherwise the new layout looks great.

As skull64 said, we will definitely be adding at least one more mod with more direct experience of the game. But if I may offer my two cents: the most logical thing to me seems to be to keep the current system, perhaps renaming "no up+a" to "warpless" or similar. Death warps are already allowed in the up+a category; I don't see the argument for allowing one but not the other. (feel free to make that argument if you disagree!)

Edit: to clarify, 2 boss with warps/up+a obviously does need to be created.

I don't really agree with having TAS "leaderboards" - in my experience they are not created with any sense of competition, and there is generally only ever one relevant TAS for a category at any one time. That said, a place to host links to them (maybe under resources?) could be cool.

Neat! If you want to talk to TASers the best place is probably the tasvideos.org forum.

Apologies if this has been suggested before, but: lots of games seem to be moving towards having dedicated discord servers to discuss runs instead of old ways like irc channels and skype groups. It would be nice to have a place on a game's sidebar where you can link a server invite.

Since my run was cut this year - and I spend much more time talking to speedfriends than actually running these days - I decided to approach this ESA more as a con than a marathon. I wanted to hang out and play games without really worrying about the stream or being constricted by the schedule. And with that goal in mind, ESA was a huge amount of fun. The extra roominess of the venue was great, the dedicated mafia space was great. There were almost always a good amount of setups available for casual gaming, random races, or fighting games. The proximity of the shopping centre made it a lot easier to get real food than previous years, even if the rest of the area was sparse. Apart from the rooms being a little small, I thought the scandic was great. And I'm not sure if the organisers can take credit for this, but even the weather was nicer than previous ESAs.

Unfortunately, ESA being so conducive to a fun casual experience is something of a double-edged sword. The impression I got is that most of the attendees (like myself) didn't care much about the stream this year. This was obviously very much exacerbated by the lack of a projector making it difficult to even watch from the same room. To be fair to the team it, definitely picked up later in the week, but the (extremely) shaky start turned off both external and internal viewers. There were some great concepts for the stream this year that just didn't end up being executed quite right, and in terms of overall production quality there were definitely two steps back for each one forward. I do regret not signing up to help out in any way with the stream, as ESA's ability to build and audience (and raise money!) is where I really want to see progress. The ability to deliver a great experience to attendees is already there!

I am trying to deliver constructive criticism, but the bottom line is, I had a great time and would definitely come back for a fourth(!) ESA.

All of the widely used emulators are allowed on the leaderboard, but as Flipside says, we take out the real time from the runs. The differences between console and emu are still not understood perfectly, but basically we think emus load rooms too fast, so even though the gameplay is accurate the overall run is not. This was not a big deal when the game primarily used IGT, but when we switched over to real time (due to the in game timer being abusable) it became awkward. The clean solution would be to ban all emulators, but we feel this would be too big a deterrent to new players.

Bizhawk is considered more accurate than VBA and its various offshoots, however it is treated exactly the same because its accuracy is still not perfect.

tldr: we would prefer everyone to use console where possible, but emu is still legitimate and is a good way to get started.

The tutorial is still pretty much up to date (any% has been largely static for a long time). I recommend checking some recent good runs to see if there are alternative strats you want to try out though!

Possibly I'm slower than most, but it took me a while to realise that you can click on IGT (or time with loads, etc) to sort by that variable. Maybe there should be some indicator for this?

iirc the game page and the rest of the site are using different obsoletion criteria - game page uses RTA, rest of site uses date

Whenever I edit an any% run on http://www.speedrun.com/fusion, the category dropdown defaults to 0%. It doesn't seem to happen for any of the other categories.

Well I don't think adding a site mod is necessary / desirable, but thanks anyway for sharing that link

Any update on this request? More relevant than ever now that http://www.speedrun.com/fusion has two first places for any%.
