If we get the teleport portals in a duo/trio/quad run, can we use them?

I've been looking at some duo and trio runs and mostly, the runner quits to the treehouse when the bar crosses the win line, but in the wr duo run at around 2:10, the host quits before the line crosses, so I don't know what is the right way to do it. Can anyone help?
