Hey, coming back to this because I might actually be doing this within the next week or so. Stopped playing for a while, but now I'm back into it and have almost finished planning my route for 100%. Whether I'll have practiced enough is another story, but we'll see when I actually do the run haha

I've planned it around the following ruleset: Complete the main story + defeat Ivlet Complete all optional quests (Charles, Maria/Marin at the Catz/Dogz hideout, Charlotte and Ambrose's special items) Return all the Zoo animals Complete the magic encyclopedia (get all bugs, fish, fruit & vegetables, flowers)

Basically the same as yours but with the fruit/veg/flower addition. They might not have a strategywiki page (which I find a little odd, since they went through the effort of discovering/explaining bug setups but didn't want to list where the optional diggable items were?*) but in my opinion they definitely count as collectibles for 100%. Especially given, like bugs and fish, they have clothing rewards for finishing them - also you can tell when you've finished a category because you get the respective clothing item in black

Do let me know if there's anything wrong with this, and I apologise in advance for what will likely be 12 hours of RNG fishing nightmares (if my past experience with completing the encyclopedia is to be believed, and yes i'm serious, it took me about that long to catch every fish simply because of the mean fishing RNG oof)

*edit: having checked again, they're actually listed on the "places" page. Not their locations on the map or a full list like bugs/fish, but at least they're noticed

This thread is a couple months old now but assuming you're referring to crAnim.txt, my guess is probably not

Just another quick post to say that I've now managed to do this myself and have video of it here (laggy, but gets the point across):

A shame, but at least now we know.

Hello! I and a group of other people have actually been doing a bit of research on this lately (and one of us is planning on making a video on it as well). Yeah, history on it is pretty hard to find, but we have actually made some progress on this, so I would be happy to share some with you!

This is the main discord server we've been discussing our findings in, which may be a bit more helpful than whatever i can toss together at 3am. I probably missed some stuff and if we find anything else then we talk about it here first https://discord.gg/EBhSvf73HU

Here's an old website for the game, a dog version and a cat version. It's all in Japanese, but even if you don't know any you can still find some interesting stuff looking around these: https://www.ubisoft.co.jp/dogcat/dog/chara/index.html https://www.ubisoft.co.jp/dogcat/cat/chara/index.html One of the pages includes a trailer which requires Flash to view, but I got a friend to record them shortly before it shut down: cat version https://t.co/R1chTH1lN4 dog version https://t.co/5qw0CeFADZ

Something of note that can be found across the website and trailer are two earlier versions of pawville, one of which is actually also visible in the credits of the final game if you look closely. Also I will never get over the fact that there was going to be a vulture on dolphin coast

A few months back, I tried datamining the game and found a handful of unused sounds and icons for things (eg. the magic hat has 4 "item" icons as if it were going to be a special item, the 4 being the different stages from its normal form to pure evil). A while after that someone came along who tried modding it, and he discovered some stuff of his own (he was the one who discovered what happens when you head through into Gongoro Peak early)

We've found a group of news websites with screenshots from before the game released. Here is one example: https://www.nintendo-master.com/news/screens-dogz Said screenshots mostly feature areas from THE DOG Island (Green Meadows, Zoomy Lake), as well as one of the earlier Pawville designs and a slightly more bare-looking version of Jade Fields. Also, each one has an identical minimap displayed. We have about 6 each for Dogz and Catz, and we found a french website that seemed to have more but it's currently dead and the images aren't saved on the wayback machine, just the article they're in, so for now they might be lost. The state of the screenshots also seems to imply they were taken surprisingly early in development

Hope this helps you :)

Hello! I have more news. I'm in a discord server for these games and someone has started trying to mod and dig into the game. One thing they've managed to do is shift around items and rocks, which means they could get to areas like lonesome park early.

When they got there, there was no cutscene or whirlwinds. Bartholomew's statue is there but cannot be spoken to. Similarly, they've gone to Inferno Cave and Polar Fields, and you can't activate the quests for the clothing. Percy and Hugo both speak as if you already have the clothing, which you don't - I assume that's just set as their default dialogue, since the first time you go there would be when the quest is active.

So, unfortunately, it seems like you'll have to go through the whole game unless we find a way to get around the quest system.

It's true that we would have video proof of the accessories, but the other reason I mentioned the storage was to suggest that accessories aren't something the devs expected or wanted you to get all of - not that it'd stop people from trying, or that it should exclude it from 100%, but it was just my thoughts.

(I might have more or different to say when it's not 5am but i wanted to mention this now because either it would bother me or I'd forget lol)

EnglandWinter_Doggo4 years ago

Getting all accessories should be "possible" - it's something I believe a friend of mine has already done - but it's very tedious. The "stunnable enemies drop accessories at a low rate" thing is painfully true. Every individual enemy type will drop a different accessory per area (so every green snake in Green Meadows will drop the same accessory, I think it's a hat, but green snakes in Treely Woods drop a different one, as do boars and bear in Green Meadows). I think you have to charge your bark/howl fully to get the item too. Also remember the combination accessories from Malshige's.

There's limited accessory storage between your inventory and the treasure chest, so you probably can't have them all at once. You'd have to start tossing them once you get too many. I don't think this was something you were meant to do and the game certainly doesn't give you a way to keep track of it- if we get a true 100% category, then I'd say don't bother with accessories.

As for quests, there are some odd ones - a set that depend on gender (date with Amalia/Camu/McCoy) and the one with Henry's special painting (Hans will ask for it from you- if you say no, then that chef guy will ask for it instead). But I don't think there should be anything stopping you from completing them all if you pick them up at the right time...? Except the date for the gender you didn't pick. Petriform is right, though, that 100% scents and a true 100% would be very similar.

I agree that changing the name to 100% scents is a good idea, both for clarity and accuracy.

EDIT: Speaking of, if we ever do need to do more research on this kind of thing, said friend who got all the accessories would probably be very happy to help. She loves this game to death and did actually do a speedrun at some point, although she didn't submit it. I will have to keep this in mind

I've never been that into Mario games or enjoyed them as much as other people seem to, but I agree that Super Mario 64 is still a good game. I like seeing people do challenges in it or seeing how their speedruns work.

I'm just not good at playing it :p

I've noticed that default trophies for top 3 have also changed, and it looks kinda odd to me but I'm not really that bothered by it.

I think the proplem people tend to have with emulators is that it's not an official way to play the game, and has the potential to be inaccurate. Mario Kart Wii is a pretty competitive game so any little advantage that could come out of emulation would probably not go down well.

It is decided on a game by game basis, so there are a good few other games that allow it. You'll have to check the rules or the run submission form - some games also give you specific settings to be as accurate and transparent as possible.

Hey, I assume this is to do with minecraft? If so, you're probably best off bringing this to the Minecraft forums.

I don't know which version Dream did his run in, so I've included links to both the bedrock and java forums Java edition: https://www.speedrun.com/mc/forum Bedrock edition: https://www.speedrun.com/mcbe/forum

Just because someone's gotten very good at something doesn't mean they can't cheat. There's actually a video out there by Karl Jobst where he explains how top level players can actually be more likely to cheat... and, because they're better at the game, they're more likely to cheat convincingly.

I don't have anything against dream. I've never watched his videos, though if you're a fan of his, I don't blame you for wanting to defend him. In my opinion, the moderator's reasoning is sound.

Sometimes famous people cheat in speedruns and that's a fact of life ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Don't worry, plenty of other new users sometimes struggle to find games already on the site. Welcome and I hope you enjoy running your game!

Currently my longest run is about 7h to beat the Barbarian Campaign of Heroes of Might and Magic 1... which, although fast compared to the casual playthroughs I've seen, is still abysmal. I wasn't as prepared as I should have been, but I also knew I didn't have the attention span to practice much more before I lost my will to do it. Things that I were overconfident in went wrong. Someone who's better at the game could easily beat me, and I eagerly await that day because I would love to see a more deserving run as the world record. :)

However, I also plan on eventually doing Petz Dogz 2 (Wii/PS2) 100%. This will probably take something like 14 hours, but that number could very massively because the majority of the run is a nightmare of RNG fishing that could be a lot faster... or a lot slower. Before I do the run, I'm doing a lot of preperation of where to fish at what times, memorising optional item placements, and the like. It'll be a while and... to be honest, I'll still probably underprepare myself because I'm good at that. I don't think I'll regret it, though!

EDIT: the 14 hours estimate was made back when I only had a PAL copy so it'll probably be a bit faster in practice just because the NTSC version is 60hz but still very long

EnglandWinter_Doggo4 years ago

Hey, thanks for this! Seems mostly fine, but may also want to add about obtaining the optional flowers and fruit & vegetable items. You could also merge getting all food/flowers/bugs/fish into a "complete the magic encyclopedia" rule, which simplifies things a little because that's where all these are in-game (under the "memo" section, if I recall - after you've got it from Beat early in the game), but if you don't think that's necessary then it's not an issue.

Thanks again :)

If someone tries clicking the link and it doesn't work, remove the dot from the end of the URL.

Doesn't seem like my kind of game, but glad you've got a game you're interested in on the site!

But what if someone else has, and you just don't know it?

Granted, what you've done is an achievement in itself. I suppose you could be the first person to have reported it.

Hey, good luck with getting your times! I'm not familiar with the game, but that won't stop me from rooting for you ^^

Yes, this can happen. When you get better runs and better placements, your standards for yourself also go up and it becomes harder to accept any mistake you've made - or at least, that's how I interpret it. I think it's more likely to happen with shorter runs, where you're so focused for those seconds or minutes and then after you're done, you finally get a chance to review it. A brief pause or timeloss to a mistake suddenly becomes glaring when you're no longer playing it.

As Timmiluvs said, try not to let it consume you. I find it easier when I instead think of what I've achieved with the run - after all, a new PB is still a new PB even if it's got these problems in it, and the important thing is that you're trying. Everyone is different so my way of dealing with this may not work well for you, but I still figure it's worth mentioning.
