For Pokémon those are probably not allowed. Pokémon uses a special version of Gambatte for the most precision and accuracy.

I’ve actually never even heard of those emulators so I’d wager that not many games allow them. You’re better off asking the mods of the game(s) for what emulators are allowed.

......why would you create an identical thread to the one you already have on this forum? Like it’s literally 4 threads below his and had a response a couple days ago.

Don't do this.

Your upload speed is probably the issue. There a bunch of speed tests you can run (google has a good one) to measure your internet speeds. More than likely, if your upload is low (like under 2-3mbps) then you might experience problems streaming at high bitrates and high quality.

You also mentioned you’re on WiFi. Wifi is naturally unstable and fluctuates massively. Coupled with having so many people/devices using it, it’s probably fluctuating even more so. A wired connection is the most stable internet you’ll get.

Finally, frames can drop if Twitch’s ingest servers are having a bad day, but that’s nothing you can fix. And that won’t be a long lasting impact. If you’re seeing this issue like daily, then it’s most likely related to the first two things I said.

It’s allowed for PS4 because it’s a native feature of the console. The console allows you to change out the HDD with an SSD easily. In other words, it’s supported by Sony.

PS2 and PS3 can’t do that without installing custom firmware on them because they don’t natively support that. In these cases it’s usually banned because it requires modifying the hardware to improve its performance which is almost always disallowed. I’d be surprised to find a game that allows this for PS2/PS3.

As a side note - PS2 has HDD support for some games naturally (FFX and the Japanese versions of KH1 for example) which drastically decreases load times. This hinges on you being able to find the correct hardware to make this work and it’s mostly JP only from what I know. But this would be/is allowed because it’s a native function supported by the console and you’re not hacking in any changes.

Join the BOTW discord and ask them there. They can help you. Or watch the WR, I believe it was set just a couple months ago.

EDIT: link to discord https://www.speedrun.com/botw/thread/kup1t

And WR was set like 3 days ago so that’s as updates as you can get.

You can either submit the run as a new submission (both will be verified but the fastest one will be on the LBs) or you can edit the existing run to have the new time and video. Either method will work fine, it just depends on whether or not you want to track all of your older runs.

EDIT: should clarify - don’t edit a run that was already verified and update it, always submit a new run once your old one is verified. But no harm in editing one that hasn’t yet been verified.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs7 years ago

Yes, mods are notified when a run is awaiting verification.

You can message the mods via their social media links or for more general communication you can create a forum post in the game’s forums.

Since this post/thread is a little hard to understand let me re-word it:

Clicking on “submit run” on any of the IL categories for the game Santa Claus Is In Trouble redirects you to the edit game page for GTA Vice City where it promptly says you don’t have permission to edit the game.

Looks like a regular old PS4 game crash since I don’t know if any specific crash points in 0.2.

Can’t really prevent it, it’s just kinda there. The PS4 ports of 1.5 and 2.5 also have this issue although random crashes on those games and 0.2 are rare.

You just got unlucky unfortunately.

You don’t even have to message a mod the URL, just edit the run with the new video link. It’ll then have to be re-verified.

Also, having twitch auto export to YT is bad and has known issues with it just eating frames over longer videos. If you have a local copy of your run you’re better off uploading that then having twitch do the export.

Ask the mods of the game.

Usually, anything old (N64 and earlier) will allow emulators because they tend to be accurate to real hardware. Just make sure you use an apporoved build/model - the game mods can provide you with approved models.

Anything more modern (say PS2 era and beyond) are usually banned or split out from a real console because those emulators tend to be very inaccurate.

No, a timer shouldn’t be required unless there are some weird circumstances that would need one (I can’t think of any).

And no, if you accidentally reset it, just continue on. You can retime the run after the fact.

@NeoSlash72 You're already a moderator for the game. You can do whatever you want including editing runs. The only thing you can't do is add more mods (that is super mod only). But if you think there is an issue with a run or 2, bring it up with the runners or the other mods to reach a conclusion instead of editing the runs yourself without talking to anyone (Im sure the runs were accepted for a reason, t3tsuya is a long time mod of a lot of games so they know what they are doing). Elevating you to super mod won't do anything.

No testing had ever been done on it, so I can't say for certain that it's comparable to pure Desmume.

I'd say go for it and see how it performs. Just compare your loads to that of other emulator runs and make sure that you're not saving obscene amounts of time. I'd imagine if it's using the same core you'll be fine. Just make sure that you're using the 0.9.10 or 0.9.11 core since those are the most accurate ones.

Draz will probably be around in a few days, she might have something additional to throw in since she did the original emulator testing.

Yeah that game is probably not appropriate for a GDQ lol. They try to keep everything PG/PG-13 and a game like that is pushing the limits.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs7 years ago

Some people run one game because that game has a multitude of categories that it can take a long time to reach your goals (and often when you do, the routes improve and you can save time on older runs). Ocarina of Time is an example of this kind of game.

Other games might be shorter or not have as many categories, so often times people will runs games within the same series, same console, same type, etc. This is long way of saying that very few people only run one game. They may focus on just one game for an extended of period of time to reach their goal, everyone ends up running more than one game the longer they're involved in this hobby.

I know a bunch of people use N64 to GC adapters for OOT and I don’t know of any issues with it. Those runners seem to like it and how it works.

Deleting games as a mod is only a thing for the first 2 weeks of the LB existing iirc, so if the game is older than that it’ll require full mod/admin intervention.

Talk isn’t aimed at speedrunning at all, it’s basically “off topic”. Heck, the most popular thread there is about music and there was one like a year ago where people shared their favorite colors.

Speedrunning topics pop up, but random topics show up too.
