The purpose of speedrunning is to complete a task (the whole game, part of the game, eating a sandwich, whatever) as quickly as possible.

The purpose of PLAYING an RPG may be the learn the story, lore and build a character, but the focus is on the word PLAYING not the word RPG.

The purpose of SPEEDRUNNING an RPG is to complete a task (main questline, death%, all achievements, getting your character to eat a sandwich, whatever) as quickly as possible. The focus is again on the word SPEEDRUNNING not the word RPG.
Trying to make a distinction between “playing” and “speedrunning” is terrible in my opinion. You’re still playing a game if you’re speedrunning it, you’re just playing it with a different goal in mind. When you play a game casually, you re playing it to gather the full story, to get a Platinum trophy (although this can also be a speedrunning goal, as an example of the overlap), etc. When you speedrun a game, you’re still playing the game and enjoying it, you’re just playing with a different goal of completing it faster than you did before.

Trying to push a distinction between the two only furthers the (incorrect) stereotype that speedrunning isn’t really playing a game and is rather cheating or unenjoyable.

Contact the community for the game and ask them for assistance with their autosplitter.

Also note that if you’re playing Stardew Valley on a console like the Switch, you’ll need an HDMI capture card to capture the video from the console and add the source to the OBS scene.

Please contact the mods of ROBLOX. They handle all game requests themselves, and all category requests need to go through the mods of the game in question.

What does that mean? Are you getting an error? Have you tried running it as Administrator?

Any extra information you have might be helpful here.

I don't think it's divisive, I just found it strange. My apologies if my reply sounded more aggressive than intended.

In that case, the second part of my response is probably the reason for it - it's mostly related to the games that someone played when they were growing up, rather than games they have played recently, that draw people into speedrunning. Obviously that's not the case for everyone, but that is a common thing - people are drawn to games and consoles from their childhood more often than not.

You contact the ROBLOX series moderators and utilize a thread on their forums because they handle all game requests for their series on their own.

With all due respect, why does the order with which moderators appear listed on a game matter at all? All that matters is that you can see the mods, not what order they’re displayed in.

If they’re going to be sorted in any way, the best sort order would probably be based off their type - supers first, regulars second, verifiers third - as it makes the most sense.

What makes you think someone who runs retro games is turned away from running modern games or vice versa? I know plenty of people who run games considered retro and modern, so idk where you’re getting the assumption that people can’t, or don’t, run both.

People run games that they are familiar with, and that usually equates to games played a lot when someone was younger. For someone in their late 20s, 30s, etc, these games are ones that could be considered “retro”. For someone in their early 20s or teenage years, that would probably be games considered “modern”. It’s not that either of those people are turned off from older/newer games, it’s just that they haven’t played them - or haven’t played them enough to warrant speedrunning them.

What types of games do you like? What consoles do you have? What length of run are you looking for?

This is an incredibly hard question to answer because what one user finds "easy" or good for a beginner, another user might have a lot of difficulty with. Either way, we'll need more information before anyone can toss out any suggestions/ideas.

Contact the moderators for the game in question to see what their protocol is for that scenario.

Some mods will be okay with you submitting both parts of the VOD, but if there's a large chunk of video missing while the recording died, it may not be accepted. It's up to the discretion of each game/LB.

1- Ethernet is always preferred as it tends to be more stable.

2- You don't need a webcam, so you could cut this out of your setup for now if you wanted to save money. Logitech has some decent webcams though, I believe the c922x can do 1080p at 30fps or 720p at 60fps and it's usually around $120.

3- I use a HyperX Cloud II headset. It's lasted me for years, and although it isn't top of the line sound quality (I'm no audiophile so that doesn't matter as much to me) it's still pretty good and it's not too expensive either (about $80)

4- Yes, Twitch is the standard place to stream, although other sites like YouTube will work too. It really depends on your preference/audience.

5- Idk, what else do you want to do? If you want to stream console games you'll need a capture card for example.

If you’re talking about LiveSplit, no. It’s a Windows program, so your only option is to run it through Wine or use the browser based version called LiveSplitOne. There might be other multi platform timers out there, but I think the big one, Llanfair, is kind of fading in relevance.

I can’t even find a game or category by that name. It doesn’t show up in the site’s search bar, nor does it show up on a generic Google search. There’s some CoD Zombie runs for something called “Shadows of Evil” but nothing along the lines of “EE” or “Easter Egg” (if that’s what “EE” stands for).

Are you asking how to request a game? Are you asking how to request a category be added to a game? Do you have a link to an LB/category that you’re seeing an issue on? (Maybe the LB’s default filters are bad)

You need an HDMI capture card and broadcasting software on your computer. There are plenty of options for capture cards depending on your price range, and there’s other ways to upgrade your setup if desired (like adding in splitters or getting a card with an HDMI pass-through so you can play on a TV while streaming) but that’s not required at the bare minimum.

Plug in the console and then plug the card into the computer if it’s via USB. If it’s internal then you’ll need to install it into the Motherboard and then plug the console in.

Additionally, they usually have drivers to install that are needed to work. It’s really as simple as that. It can get more complicated than that if you start to get going with splitters and other stuff and split the video signal, but we’d need more info on your setup and capture card of choice.

Both of those tools have explicit instructions directly on their pages. SPRT has all the info you need in the README and Matt’s has all the info built directly into the form. The instructions are pretty clear to me, but maybe someone has a video tutorial if you’re more of a visual learner.

In order to request moderator on an LB, a user’s account has to be 30 days old. In order to request a game, a user’s account has to be 7 days old.

I’m assuming the 30 day limit is to make sure that a user isn’t brand new and trying to snipe access to an LB, but then shouldn’t that account age restriction be the same for requesting a game? After all, requesting a game makes you the sole moderator and entrusts you with setting up an LB, so to me it doesn’t make sense that after 7 days a user is able to do that, but they have to wait 30 days to be able to get moderator on an existing board; especially because being the sole moderator of a new LB is (often) more responsibility than being added as a moderator to an existing one.

I think there should be some consistency there with how old an account has to be before doing either of those actions.
