This is a real user, but they seem to be spamming a URL to their YouTube channel that appears to be a "subscribe" link (so when you clink on the link it asks you to confirm your subscription to their channel).

I'm not sure I really understand the exact context of your question so I'm going to answer all possible contexts of it.

  1. Most runners use a timer application to time their runs. The most common is LiveSplit, although there are a few others out there that people will use. All timer programs are manually controlled by pressing a preset key on a keyboard to control them and their various functions. (see below for an exception to that). This is how console runners time their runs for the most part.

  2. Some games, almost always PC games, can have autosplitters which are coded by the community for the game. Autosplitters connect into LiveSplit and will automatically perform actions such as pausing when loading, or performing a split.

  3. Some games will frame count top times which is the act of downloading a video (or using an online tool) and examining the exact number of frames the run took from the starting condition to the ending condition. This is done to get an exact time for the run that eliminates the human error of starting and stopping a timer manually. This is often done for console games that are extremely optimized and competitive so they can get the milliseconds of the run exactly.

@HappySpeedrunsGames Unfortunately, users of this site have to be at least 13 so I can’t really help you. The internet can be a dangerous place, make sure you’re careful.

Then wait 7 days and submit the run yourself.

Nobody will submit the game for you, nor can anyone submit the game using your run (that is against the rules). Waiting a week is not a long time, just practice and do more runs in the meantime to improve your time/route.

Yeah I didn't hear of it until today, I haven't seen any actual announcements on it. No clue where the information came from unless it happens when changing a username like you said.

If you're asking if you're going to lose your name, then the answer is "I have no idea".

None of us know what the site staff are going to do with current usernames that violate any rules, that's up to them and their discretion and as far as I know, they have not shared plans with the site as a whole. However, I would say that by you still having your username they aren't going to just take it away (after all, they would need something to replace it with). More than likely old usernames will stay and any new ones (or changes) will have to conform to the new rules.

@SmallBodyBeegBrain A few things to note:

  1. If you have a question you need to specifically ask the question. Your post doesn’t contain a question and is rather nonsensical to both the discussion here and just for reading. We don’t know what you’re asking about because you haven’t asked anything here.

  2. This thread was originally about Assassin’s Creed. If you’d like to discuss a different topic or ask an unrelated question, please create a new thread.

  3. If you have a question about a specific game, there is no need to make a thread in the forums for the main site. Any questions regarding a specific game need to be posted in the game’s forums, not the general ones for the main site.

Boards are auto removed after 14 days I believe if there is no action taken to set them up after they are added. If someone sets up a board but never uploads a run, then there’s really nothing that can be done because there’s very little information on WHY there are no runs (maybe the run was deleted by the runner). So it’s hard to say if there was any activity before.

But no, the site would never ever delete and established board just because it’s been inactive for a period of time. That wouldn’t even make sense at all, you couldn’t just wipe away an entire community just because nobody has submitted a run in a while.

@Garsh LiveSplit is a Windows application, it doesn't work (natively) on a Mac, so just recommending that isn't great advice.

LiveSplit can run on a Mac, but you'll need to run it through Wine, or you'll need to use the browser based version called LiveSplitOne. So, while it's technically okay to recommend LiveSplit, you should probably add it in a bit more information to make sure that it's complete advice for someone who isn't using Windows.

They might have advice for you in there.

What kind of phone do you have? iOS has a native screen recorder that records the phone screen and saves it to your videos all at the click of a single button. I’m not sure if there is a better way people do though.

I know there is a big mobile speedrunning discord (I’ll have to dig up the link and edit it in here) so you can probably ask there for help with this kinda stuff.

Your question has nothing to do with that topic or subject of this thread. In the future, create your own thread if you have a different question. Also, you already asked this question in the Speedrunning forum, don’t ask it again in a different forum. Try to keep it to 1 post for your question so people don’t end up responding in multiple places.

All games have their own rules for what is acceptable proof for submissions. Check the rules of the game or contact the mods to find out what they require. Most games require some video proof because otherwise there is practically no way to verify you actually did the run.

Overlaying a timer has nothing to do with the software for the timer itself, you need to use software like OBS for that. Software like that will let you capture multiple sources including the game and a timer. So, find a timer that works good for you and then download OBS and setup your layout and all that fun stuff.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs4 years ago

I guess you simp too.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs4 years ago

Your options for a timer on a non-Windows OS is LiveSplitOne which is browser based, running regular LiveSplit through Wine or using Llanfair (I don’t recommend this one because it’s not maintained anymore).

As a note, whichever timer you pick, I do not believe any autosplitters will work - they don’t work on LiveSplitOne to my knowledge and I don’t think they work on LiveSplit running through Wine either.

It is implicitly implied that all cheating through external devices/codes is banned.

You don't need to specify in the rules that the use of a cheating device like a GameShark is banned, that's just implied not just for this site, but for speedrunning in general. Some games have runs that happen on cheated files as joke type categories to see how broken something could be, but for all main runs, cheating is inherently prohibited. Any rules would have to be inclusive of allowing a device like a GameShark rather than exclusive in disallowing it.

It's technically up to the community for a any game on what is allowed, but when grinding is involved, the general consensus is "find unique ways to route your run to get a faster time and avoid grinding" rather than "cheat to eliminate parts of a run I don't like".

Oh I’m not arguing about making it accessible, I just remember that being a concern mentioned before (before the idea disappeared into the abyss of that Feedback Thread)...

And it’s lovely, I can almost go outside without 12 layers of clothes on.
