Some people may be unaware, but if you're surprised the IGT is very similar to RTA, that's because it is. Jaaay and I have addressed the concerns in the official discord about loads counting towards the final time when it should not. This issue does not allow fair competition and we hope the devs have seen our messages and will consider this for the week 1 patch or another patch soon, mods of that server agree that loads need to be not counted. Expect this fix to happen eventually if not soon.

The rules state the situation with emulation as well as the forum post by FB_Productions. Emulators heavily decrease load times which is an unfair advantage therefore not being allowed. I am very against making a subcategory just for emulator if there is not plenty of interest from multiple runners.
After a couple discussions within the discord server over the last few years, the Brawl speedrunning community have come across a temporary test for emulation on this leaderboard. It will be permanent if enough interest is shown throughout set periods of time.
On July 30, 2021, a new emulator subcategory for Subspace Emissary (Any% EMU) will be created. This subcategory will be reassessed after 2 months on September 30, 2021, for a possible 3 month extension up to the end of 2021 if new runner activity (not just runs) meets the criteria that will be set by the Brawl speedrunning community.
*Edit 9/30/21: Although there have only been a few runs submitted, there has been some activity of interest from runners to learn the game through EMU and submit to the subcategory. Because of this, as well as the tournament that SpeedGaming will host this November, the Subspace Emissary Any% EMU subcategory will remain and another reevaluation will take place first thing in 2022.
If this new emulator subcategory succeeds by the start of 2022, it will be permanent and other subcategories (NG+ EMU, 100% EMU, EMU subcategories for other gamemodes) will be created if not already from a possible demand. We hope this temporary (and optimistically permanent) addition for more accessibility on this leaderboard encourages people to run Brawl.
*Edit 1/1/22: It has been decided that Emulation will be allowed permanently, as there is a slow yet increasing amount of emulator runs being submitted. If emulator for any other real-time category begins to have demand and runs, they will also obtain EMU subcategories. Categories that use In-game time allow EMU runs and will not have a separate place on the leaderboards.
2+ years as a volunteer, was a fun ride. S/O Pac and Bokoblins for originally bringing me aboard. People may of not seen me around much, mostly handling Game Requests, but I enjoyed discussing ideas and feedback with the team over that time.
We are all in good hands, trust in Elo's development with this site, they have lots of advancements planned.
If you didn't want it to be a thing then you wouldn't have made this forum thread in the first place. Please, use your brain next time before creating forum threads, its not hard...
I think it has no place here. Online-related categories have always been dumb, look at Smash 4. Only fine with All Challenges including online challenges but literally no one has ran it yet and I don't see anyone willing to in the future.
Yes its known about, theyve patched it down from previous versions as you arent able to attack until the shield is down, it doesnt save any time essentially.
I suggested the idea when I did my 1 week of runs and it was turned down, I think it as misc. is fine, the street is long enough and is just an extension of Wizard City%, which in turn all the streets a part of Wizard City% are also extensions, they just so happen to be a part of the main questline to get through Wizard City. I don't see the harm in at least adding it somewhere if there's more consideration towards running it.
Although not a skip, Character Storage is a glitch that enables you to play a new level on a new game file with an unintended character group. This was found by James in January of 2021. The glitch is performed on the map by hovering over a level next to the new level and pressing towards that direction + A on the same frame. You can preload a specific group by entering an already completed level with that group, return to map, and perform the glitch on the new level. If a level has an opening cutscene and/or opening cutscene that forces a certain group's selection before gameplay, the stored characters will not be able to be played. Because of this, the glitch will successfully work only on the following levels: The Plain, The Ruins, The Swamp (until Giant Diddy Kong fight), The Research Facility II (until Samus' fight), The Subspace Bomb Factory II (until horde fight), and The Great Maze (until Tabuu fight). For these levels, rather than showing the character selection screen before entering, the game will display the difficulty selection screen from the completed level while performing this glitch (changing the difficulty before entering does not work, whatever the initial difficulty was selected upon starting a new file will override the completed level's selected difficulty). Also, the stored characters can bypass any cutscenes throughout these levels until the first one that forces the level's set character selection. Currently, this glitch would not save any time in a full-game run (due to the slow nature of preloading a specific character group and entering the new level with the previous level's group is not optimal for all of the above levels), however, it can save time in The Ruins, The Swamp, and The Subspace Bomb Factory II for individual level runs since unintended characters are a faster option before the stored characters are canceled out by entering the fights that force the levels' set character selection respectively. This direction + A 1-frame trick has been used for other previous discoveries, such as skipping difficulty selection upon starting a new file (forces to Intense), and invisible name tag selection (doesn't show invisible name tag in-game). https://twitter.com/Techstrobe/status/1352991163435921411
Rather than "Normal" just do "Solo", self explanatory. Would agree the merge makes sense after EU server updates.
Regarding the potential merging of Legacy and Current, I would recommend to add Legacy/Current filters beforehand while its easy to apply to all the runs that are categorized under their respective wizard city patch. This way it will be easy to tell which runs were completed before the wizard city patch and afterwards.
The Co-op idea was something Red/Poop and I were going to attempt before wizard city was ruined. I think in that aspect Co-op would be a good idea upon fresh start (which may be the way to do a full Arc 1 run since 2 underleveled storms is greater than 1), rather than the max wizard carry Co-op (Toontown Rewritten does this version of Co-op, but it does not seem to be a good run for Wizard101 with the way the games differ in questing). Co-op runs for MMORPGs are always hit or miss.
I don't believe so especially with the limited content of that game. Plenty of other category extensions have proper objectives and motive to them, all people want for this is CPU (x) stock so that they have a place to upload their chrom up b's. This game does not have genuine extensions outside of World of Light stuff which has always been unpopular.
The kind of categories people suggest for this game are super arbitrary and should not be on a category extensions leaderboard.
