Its random, you basically just have to keep restarting until you get lucky but it does happen.

Fortunately.. or un-fortunately depending on who you are lol, the only runs that seem to be affected are my own, and I am more than willing to redo them so I will go ahead and remove them and re-submit using the new rule. Below are links to my affected runs so you can see what all of this is about, Map 3 Hard is the most obvious to spot straight away.

WHEN SUBMITTING A RUN, BEFORE THE RUN BEGINS YOU MUST SHOW YOURSELF REFRESHING THE WEB-PAGE OR YOUR RUN WILL NOT BE VERIFIED TO THE LEADER-BOARDS. I will explain why below.

I have just discovered an interesting bug in the game that needs to be addressed and immediately added to the rules. When I discovered this I did some testing and it happens consistently so it is abusable. When playing on a higher difficulty like Normal or Hard, when you buy a Radar Dome it increases your damage as intended, however, this damage buff seems to carry over somewhat to your next game if you do not refresh the page and jump straight into another one. I noticed this when after having just finished a run on Normal difficulty where I had a few Radar Domes, the next run I did, I was 2-shotting level 1 Tiny Ground Units with Missile Turrets when it should take 3 shots to kill. Replicating this provided similar results.

I will be adding this to the category rules immediately. Because this is a new discovery, I would hate to have to delete runs off the leader-boards that had no ill intent so before I go removing any I will first, see if any are affected and second, would love to get the community's thoughts on this and whether or not to remove any runs submitted before this bug was known about. I will respond to this thread if I find any runs affected by this.

I hope this is the right place for this, it has come to my attention that I had the name of this game (https://www.speedrun.com/ben_10_alien_force_forever_defense) submitted incorrectly. I have edited what I can, that being the URL and the Twitch name however I don't think I can edit the Name itself which should read as "Ben 10 Alien Force: Forever Defense". Thanks!

This first update will be a list of recent changes that have already gone into affect so might as well lump them all together.

  1. The rules for individual levels have been updated to include/confirm that using a "Level 5 save" is allowed.
  2. The rules for the "100%" category have been updated to include/confirm that it must be played on a new save.
  3. The category name for the individual final level has been changed from "level 5" to "Final Battle" to match the game.
  4. All runs on the leader-boards have been updated to properly display "Web" for platform.

I've tried using this to my advantage for a while now, not so much to get an extra jump but to activate your boost. If you have boost available and hit something mid air it can activate giving you speed in the air,which is why I tend to have the "Meteor Storm" Cheat/Mod on when running any% categories in the off chance I get use out of it. I believe the game treats things in the air for a tiny moment as something you can stand on which is why I think this is possible (as well as being able to jump off of them), which also can lead to some interesting mechanics as such: The video is a run where I have "Freerun" mode activated and by holding "SHIFT" + "Y", you spam summon red dactyls to give you the ability to "Sky Walk" by running on them mid air. This tech is currently not accepted on the leader boards as "Freerun" mode essentially has no end like you may have noticed in the video, on the final level when I reach the haven, the level doesn't end, I just pause the game to stop the timer. It is not accepted on the leader boards because FruitNationalist and I could not come to an agreement on the matter but I figured I'd put this information out there to get the community's opinion. :)

Runs submitted after this post has been made will not be accepted for submission to the leader-boards if, for the category to which it applies, "Cheats & Mods" are not shown to be disabled as well as the designated seed for that category not shown to be the correct value set by the community. More details below.

Renusek brought up a good point that per the rules for categories it applies to, included in the rules is to show that "Cheats & Mods" are disabled as well as the level seed is set correctly. I have not been enforcing this for reasons I explain in my response to his post here ( https://www.speedrun.com/dino_run_dx/thread/evz7m ) but that is changing with this post as stated above.

Before I begin I would definitely like to apologize for not being stricter on this matter especially since I have been aware of it for a while now, as well as for not following this rule myself as a mod for the game.

You are exactly right, we do have in the rules for categories where "Cheats & Mods" are not allowed that they must be shown and I as mod have not been enforcing that, the main reason (albeit not a great one) is that it is pretty easy to spot if someone has them enabled. Seeds on the other hand, are definitely easier to get away with with more of a benefit. I have had my mind on seeds for a while specifically because using a designated one per category would remove the randomness element of "getting a bad seed" during a run. To simplify what I mean, (and this will be a bit dramatic to get my point across) the only 2 categories that are really actually competitive are "Challenge%" and "Short%" because these are the only ones that require a seed so everyone is on the same playing-field, not having to hope for a fast seed. So I would really love all of your feedback on this issue and what you all think.

To address the main concern of the original post, and I will make a separate forum post about this specifically: ALL RUNS FROM HERE ON OUT WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHOW (IN CATEGORIES IT APPLIES TO) THAT "CHEATS & MODS ARE DISABLED. This will also apply to showing seeds once that decision has been made by the community. (This does not affect runs that have already been submitted)
