The Stabilizer Update recently added a more accurate IG timer; however, it only counts up during gameplay. This means someone could stay on the item screen for minutes straight, re-rolling the items before each level until they get the perfect 3 item combo.
This is interesting to optimize and a cool challenge in it's own right, but it's antithetical to the concept of speedrunning. There is a reason why Minecraft switched to RTA after people started excessively pausing.
The current method of RTA timing works fine; let's not change it please.
Nevermind, I figured it out myself. I just needed to change my display refresh rate to 60FPS.
For some reason, my PC runs this game at 40 FPS on average; because of that, my 49 minute run ended up being 75 minutes in real time. I decided not to submit it because the game runs so slow it would probably count as cheating.
Is there any way to fix this?
According to the site rules, you have the right to upload without a timer, unless there is a good reason to require one (which does not apply to this game since IGT is not required)
SRC Moderation Rules:
Do not require a timer on a video unless there is a good reason to do so. A good reason might be a game that uses an auto-splitter to track time without loads.
I also want to add that this category will be much more interesting on classic mode. I chose to run on Journey NMA because that is my area of expertise.
I posted in the category extensions forum. Hopefully it's accepted!
This is not my idea- it comes from here: https://www.speedrun.com/terraria/thread/8l45m
Overall, I think it's a very interesting and fun category idea. I think this category will be great for beginner speedrunners, as well as experienced ones who want something new to do. Seeing the route develop and which bosses will be fought will be interesting; I love the element of choice in which bosses players choose to fight.
Here is my example run:
I'm a bit rusty at this game but hopefully this is a good example.
I did an example run of your category idea! I'm a little rusty at this game but I hope it's still good.
I mean, if "Cooked Fish%" exists, I'm sure this category can too. In fact, I'm actually really starting to like the idea.
Interesting Idea, but I expect everyone would just do the same two orders. Brain -> Eye -> Skeletron, Brain -> King Slime -> Eye.
The second one would be barely faster but the reset count for a natural King Slime spawn would be insane.
I guess it could be a fun category extension though. I would support adding it and maybe do some runs.
Thanks. I guess this game isn't yet at the point of optimization where small language differences really matter.
Pharaoh Finger Snail was an ancient Egyptian ruler from the pre-dynastic period of prehistoric Egypt.[1][2][3] It is disputed whether he really existed as the reading of his name as a king's name is far from certain. Most scholars do not read the known signs as a king's name.[4] He may have been the first king of a united upper Egypt.[5][6]
The name is preserved in the inscriptions in the tomb U-j of King Scorpion I in Umm el-Qa'ab.[7][better source needed]
I see two different versions of what I assume is Chinese. Which one does the community usually use? Until I get an answer, I'm going to be using the first one.
This isn't really a speedrunning question but I'm curious. Is there any meaningful difference between OpenGL and normal, or is it just some sort of hardware compatibility thing?
EDIT: I also noticed that the current version most people are using is 1.2, but my game says it's in 1.1.5. Is that normal?
Glad to know that the chicken balls world record is safely held by a fellow Oregonian
