Minor Rule Change:
Added the rule to all All Quests categories that require runners to complete the quests in order. Glory Days, Respite's End, Another Way, Around the Bend, and Shadowman is the order the quests must be completed in.
Any runs that were completed before today's date, 9/4/2020 do not have to adhere to this new requirement.
All runs completed from 9/4/2020 onward must adhere to this new requirement.
Minor Platform addition: MacOS has now been added as a platform for running DemonCrawl!
Minor rule change: With all of the new platforms that have been added as ways to speedrun DemonCrawl, I have added two new rules to the list of Game Rules:
When submitting a run, you must select the platform that you performed the run on.
Any runs found to be submitted under the wrong platform will be rejected immediately.
MInor Platform additions: Linux has been added. Mac will be added when it leaves beta.
Rule change:
Runs on the mobile versions of the game are now allowed on the SRC leaderboards! Please make sure you are using the official mobile releases of these versions!
With the addition of the new Hard Mode for level generation, there will need to be changes made to the leaderboards. I will be figuring out how to make this change without losing any of the already submitted runs. For the purposes of the leaderboards, all runs submitted and verified up until today's date will be considered "Normal" runs.
I have gone through and edited every run on the leaderboards to give the difficulty of Normal and set up the sub-categories for both Normal and Hard difficulties. I have also added the rule that you must show that you are playing on Hard Mode before you start a Hard Mode run.
Hard Mode runs for 100% and Any% are not allowed since they don't exist!
@Khazixstann All runs in 2-Island%, 4-Island% and All Squads% are played on Easy. You can see what difficulty they are being played on by looking in the top right corner right as the run is about to start. I'm not 100% sure about All Squads%, but it would not surprise me that it's Easy for that as well. I would assume 100% is also played on Easy, but I cannot be certain due to the fact that I'm not as certain about certain achievements in this game. There is a Hard-Mode category is Misc. runs that require runs to be played on Hard.
Small rule change:
Milliseconds in timing are no longer required on runs that are over an hour long unless the World Records are extremely close together.
Fresh File runs now require you to create a profile before your run in the video proof that you provide with the run. The exact wording is as follows: You must create a new character profile before your run in the video proof provided.
The Completionist category and all sub-categories for that category have been removed due to lack of interest.
Only Casual, Casual (Random), and Normal Glory Days IL runs will be accepted under the Fresh File sub-category.
All of the other Casual and Normal quests (Respite's End, Another Way, Around the Bend, and Shadowman) will not be accepted under the Fresh File ruleset.
If you would like to participate in discussions about future rule changes and category changes, please join the DemonCrawl Discord here: https://discord.gg/2EF8HzQ .
Then, go to the #speedrunning channel to talk about changes.
Both rule changes and category changes will still be posted in the Rule and Category Changes thread on this forum as well!
There is an RNG manipulation for the NES version of Dr. Mario and since the category isn't called 0-10 "glitchless", manipulations are allowed. You have two choices in this instance: learn the RNG manipulation to put yourself on the same playing field as them, or keep playing the way you have been playing and improve at your own pace, and don't worry about what the top level players are doing.
This only really matters if you plan on getting the #1 spot in this game, and given your current ranking, I don't think you need to be worried about this at this point in time.
As for a filter for this, the easiest way to do this would be to add a "glitchless" sub-category for each currently existing category and then move all of the runs that are known to not use manipulations to the "glitchless" sub-category. However, even doing this would uproot well over 75-90 runs and in my opinion, would not really matter in the long run. There is no way to filter out manipulated runs from non-manipulated runs using the already present filter.
Overall, while this would be nice, it isn't practical to implement without upending the entire leaderboards and having to move hundreds of runs into new categories.
Regular Infinite Level categories and No Reset categories should be considered separate leaderboards, and runs submitted to both should only have the No Reset run verified. No Reset runs should not be verified on the regular Infinite Level categories to keep the two categories separated.
Not to mention that almost all of the suggestions for categories require more than one person to complete, which falls under PvP, which isn't allowed as per the Game Request rules.
Due to the new expansion, No HDF has been changed to no HDFS and HDF has been changed to HDFS to include rulings for the new sigils included in Sweeping Heights.
Another option we have is to make category extensions and just put the two Endless categories there.
After talking about it on the Discord, I'm more of in the camp of change nothing for the Endless leaderboards. It's very easy to get the ROM and the right emulator to play the pre-patch version without too many issues.
Further rule changes have been made:
All runs done on emulator must now meet at least one of the two following criteria:
- In the video proof, capture the entire emulator window.
- In the comments, say which emulator and version you used to play.
The main game rules have been updated to include all of the rules that apply to the game in general, which include the above rule, as well as:
- Dolphin 5+ is the only accepted emulator at this time.
- Homebrew and smartphone emulators are banned.
- Video proof is required for every run.
All of these changes are meant to make this game conform to most of the other leaderboards on SRC.
If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, please let me know either here or in private message. Thanks!
Smartphone emulators are banned. You must use a computer with one of the emulators allowed in addition to either streaming or local recording it, or you have to play on console with a capture card and stream or local record using OBS. There are no other options for this game.
