To be honest, I just forgot to add co-op. It's up now, feel free to submit your runs! :)

Basically what ROMaster2 said. There's nothing at all for this game yet, do whatever you want for now. If there is a bunch of activity for this game at some point in the future, we may revisit whether or not to allow emulator, but since that's clearly not the case, go nuts.

So, this game is hilarious and I wish I could run it more, but the categories as is are a little.. lacking? All stages is fun but it's really really short and it doesn't really show off all of the funny stuff the game has to offer. And all memories is just.. well... too much grinding one stage.

So I came up with some ideas for some extra categories that might be more fun, show off the funny text in the game, and might be better in a marathon setting.

The first one is 99%, where it's basically all memories but minus the one where you have to grind for 30 minutes. The only downside to that is that it doesn't even show off all the stages.

Another one, a little more strange for speedrunning, is one I'm calling "Magical Training & Getting" which is all stages, plus all of the training stages. Including the training stages makes the run slightly longer while showing off more of what the game has to offer including Teruko Chan and the funny trick names, as well as more of the funny text.

Let me know what you guys think about adding those categories? I'd love to try to get this game into marathons (not necessarily just GDQs) for its humor quality, but the current categories are just lacking the right amount of game.

It's a well-known fact that VBA doesn't emulate GBC properly, so if you did re-merge console and emulator, you'd need to have proof that you're running on the proper emulator (see Pokemon Red/Blue). This would disqualify literally every emulator run that's on the leaderboard right now. If they're going to be combined, that's the only fair way to do it that I can see.

Aerial Momentum

When you are falling, the first time you press Left or Right, your vertical speed will reset (Example: Jump -> press nothing -> wait until you're falling at max speed -> press right). In the given example, you will notice DK's falling speed significantly lower the instant you press Right. This can be used to gain extra distance from jumps (You can see this utilized in the Monkey Fest skip). However, it may cause you to lose your forward momentum upon landing. To maintain forward momentum best, either press nothing during the entire duration of your jump, or mash Right from the apex of your jump.

The Wii version is technically the fastest version. It can skip end-of-day cutscenes, saving about 30 seconds per day. There are some other version differences, some in favor of Wii, some in favor of GC. Most people prefer to use whichever version they're more comfortable with, so I would recommend going with whichever version you've played the most, and are most familiar with.

Also, I don't know if you're including region differences? PAL GC is a lot slower due to a slower framerate. JP is about 5 seconds slower than US, because Secret Safe weighs 85 instead of 40. PAL Wii and US Wii are pretty much identical, I believe. TLDR: US is probably your best bet, regardless of if you play on GC or Wii.

Sorry for the late reply, I don't check the forums here all that often.

I don't speak for everyone in the community, but I thought I'd throw my opinion in here about why we have it all as one leaderboard. When the community first started, almost everyone was playing on NTSC GC (and for that matter, it seems like that's still how it is), so having a separate leaderboard for two or three people seemed kind of pointless.

Of course, the version is always shown on the leaderboard, so if you just want to see a leaderboard of just PAL, or just Wii, or whatever, you can always just sort other runs out.

Good idea. It's added now.

I added All Mission Mode levels, and All Non-DLC Mission Mode levels. That's including Battle Enemies and Defeat Bosses. I'm not sure if it would be good to have a ton of categories cluttering up the leaderboard for Mission Mode, though. If we went with your idea, we'd have 4 categories for each type, meaning 9 categories, in addition to the ones up there now (non-DLC CT, DLC CT1, DLC CT2, All CT, non-DLC BE, DLC1 BE, DLC2 BE, and bosses). Perhaps just a couple of them, like, Collect Treasures non-DLC, and All Collect Treasures. I don't know about everyone else, but I feel like Collect Treasures is the better mode for speedrunning, if we're going to have just one.

hm, ILs would be a good idea. I'll get those added soon.

If we can come up with a consensus on categories to add, that people would be interested in running, I'll be sure to add them.

I was thinking something like All Suit Upgrades for a misc category, personally. And I could add Low-Pikmin categories, too, if there's any interest in running them.

What I use is a Dazzle DVC 100. I got mine for around $20 a few years ago. You would also need video cable splitters and some spare cables to hook up your system to the capture card and TV at the same time.

Hey Tcbtrio,

You've been posting a lot of really good runs, without any video proof. I'm a bit skeptical, with times like that you really should have video proof. Do you have any proof for any of your runs?
