There are 9 main platforms, including NES, Switch, and Wiiu that are acceptable for speedruns.

This sounds like you still have to time the last punch manually in order to beat him. Also, when saying "uppercuts" I think you mean jabs because it's only possible to get one star before he backs up at 0:40. You do seem to be describing a buffer that already exists.

When the clock hits 0:38, buffer two face punches. If Joe beeps twice, throw two left gut punches and one right gut punch. If he beeps 4 times, buffer four left gut punches.

Or, staring from 0:00, you can buffer 22 face punches followed by the strat above.

Do you mean countering his hooks with jabs for stars? That's very well known and is used quite commonly in Speedruns. You have a large window to counter the hook.

That's basically just taking CH2 from the current all chapters runs and giving it it's own category. Could MAYBE be interesting as you could technically store as many CH1 items as you want and get as much money as you want but mostly it's just half of the current all chapters. Plus this category would be almost meaningless with the release of CH3 and CH4.

I dont know much about Roms so unfortunately i can't help you here. It would probably be safer to get it on console. If you have a Nintendo switch you can pay for the online features and get unlimited access to the NES games on there. MTPO runs very well there. If you would prefer a rom, I suppose you could ask on Discord or experiment with other roms to find the one you want.

You can also check the rules to see which platforms are accepted if that helps.

If there are any gameplay differences in the rom, it is probably not acceptable. If you can remove these differences, it should be okay.
