Why did the chicken cross the road
In this run, I performed a weird glitch that gives you a double jump. I've managed to replicate it several times, it involves jumping into a corner and jumping again. It doesn't save any time, it's the exact same as doing one bonk. So, is it allowed?
This is a bit of a random question but an interesting thought I had. There are a lot of categories which are both incredibly easy and incredibly optimized, leading to many people being able to tie the world record.
I did some research, and I found a few games with lots of world record ties:
Breaking the bank had 17 ties before it was untied. Zool any%: 30 wr ties before it was untied Glass Joe il had 300+ runs before it was deleted https://www.speedrun.com/mtpo/thread/73jsn Club Penguin Thin Ice: 8 ties Super Mario Bros. CE Minus World : 8 ties Hitman 2 silver tongue any% IL: 9 ties A platformer for ants any%: 12 ties Paper Minecraft sleep set seed: 13 ties Choppy orc level 2: 14 ties Super mario run 1-1 IL: 14 ties windows minesweeper beginner: 16 ties Sonic the hedgehog Marble 2 IL: 18 ties Google Doodle Halloween 2015: 18 ties dragster any%: 18 ties (more ties for slower times, but only 18 wr ties) Super Mr. Krbas 1-1 IL: 19 ties Wii Sports Resort CE HS Bowling 100 pin: 21 ties World's Hardest Game level 2 IL: 23 ties The town with no name any%: 24 ties Getting over it uninstall: 27 ties Red ball level 1 il: 28 ties Celeste classic 2100m: 42 ties Punch Out NES Don Flamenco: 44 ties Seterra New south wales cities IL: 50 ties Home Alone NES: 77 ties NSMB2 1-1 IL: 106 ties Mario Maker 2 A downhill batttle IL: 107 ties Google Doodle Pony Express: 109 ties NSMB 1-1 IL: 176 ties MC CLassic mine dirt: 481 ties (i think this is the most)
There might be more though.
The html5 rules are very confusing and should be fixed
"Runs under 45s require video proof."
I'm pretty sure a 44 second time is impossible, so this should be changed, maybe times under 49 seconds?
"Timer must be visible on screen."
This should also be changed for flash rules. By timer, I assume that mods mean the in game clock thingy needs to be shown, probably as a barrier against splices or speeding up video. However, when I read this, I thought it meant I needed a timer, like livesplit or something. Both my run and @Poggies runs have no timer, so I assume I don't need one. This should be worded differently I think.
"Timing is 60,000 - your score, put into ss.mmm form."
HTML5 doesn't have igt, so this should be deleted.
First of all: Dilosaur123 has been banned. Not by me, but the mods have actually banned him from the entire site. I will update this as I get stuff done, this post will act as a changelog. First thing is to require verification for all runs.
I rejected the runs by Doctor_Kok, and ZangoRurit for not having video proof / not getting the game's actual ending (stopped before even getting the credits).
Changed timing method to in-game time.
ARG_Axel-Gamer-YT's run has been changed from emu to iOS
Fixed timing for all runs
Updated cover art to bigger version with better color (it's still a bit blurry though, so will try to fix that some more.)
I added game rules. They aren't very good or comprehensive as of yet, but they will do.
LardvarkJoe has been added as a Supermod, since he is the only active runner, and is willing to moderate the leaderboards. I will be stepping down to a regular mod so that I can still finish making a few changes to the board, and can still moderate in case LardvarkJoe disappears like every other runner (which hopefully won't happen).
There are now new rules for Last Chance Mode. One of the rules is that all runs require game audio. @ig@olso_varte 's run does not, but it has been grandfathered in due to it most likely being legitimate and the rules being added after the run was done.
200% and 400% Zoom are now categories. I will add YourCollegeBlog and unnilunium's runs to the board as a benchmark.
The only completion of 200% and 400% zoom are by the two people I have added to the boards. I also double checked to see if anyone other than olso_varte had beaten last chance mode, and nobody else had ever gotten past the final level. I will not be adding any normal mode runs to the board unless they are submitted, as adding every single person's casual playthrough is pointless.
I fixed the resources. I changed the author to the correct company/person, and made the descriptions better.
I fixed the stream section. The game on twitch has a typo, so the twitch name should be TrapAdventure 2, not Trap Adventure 2. Now, when someone streams this game on twitch, it will show up on the site.
Changed the cover art to the actual cover art from the appstore. The previous cover art will be added as an icon.
Added the icon.
To Do: Make rules for all categories Make trophies
Edit: I'm removing myself as a moderator. I believe LardvarkJoe to be a very good moderator, and I don't run this game. I've gotten everything on this to do list done except making trophies, which isn't that important.
I cant follow or unfollow games I don't get notifications anymore If I click on someone's profile, I can't see their socials I've tried anything and nothing works. I asked a few other people and they aren't having this problem. How can I fix this, these are important features.
Q1: Is there an official version of the game, or any versions that are banned. Coolmath is banned for many webgames like duck life, TinG, papas games, etc. I currently play on coolmath, is this OK, and are there any better sites Q2: In order to get a game accepted, you have to have a video of the run. There are no runs on the leaderboard currently. Where is the videos? I want to have a goal time to beat.
I have an idea for a 100% category where you collect 7 chickens and 4 orbs in one playthrough of the game as fast as possible (i believe there are only 7 chickens and 4 orbs) First run I did was a 5:53 with 8 deaths (3 intentional deaths)
will update this forum post thing, im stratfinding rn and have found some interesting stuff
Strat 1: Bat quick kill Normally you run underneath the bat and hit it to the left. This is slow. I found a way to save about half a second over that. I jump and hit the bat immediately, and then keep hitting it to the right side of the screen. When it gets to the right of the screen, hit it again and it will rebound to the left. Turn around, and wait a bit before you swing the whip, otherwise you will moonwalk and take damage. Hit it and it will die before it gets to the left edge of the screen. I can pull it off in stage 1, I don't know about 3 and 4
Backup 1: You can take damage in level 2 and not lose time if you get hit while waiting for a platform or while on stairs. However, the health refill takes longer after the boss kill. There is a health refill right before the boss in the breakable block on the corner of the stair. You can whip when you stand on it and it will break even though it is under you. You can then hold right. This saves at most .3 seconds and doesn't save any time over an optimal run but its really easy to do.
Softlock: I found a softlock in level 2. When you fall into water, you usually die. But in level 2, there is a spot where you can stand and not die. You can't die or jump out of the pit, so you softlock and have to reset. The pit is right next to the chicken.
Easter egg: In level 2 (top path) there are stairs that lead up to the boss arena. Instead of climbing up the stairs, jump to the right and die. There is a wall and two letters that say "TF". Idk if this is intentional or accidental. It's interesting nonetheless.
Wrong Warp: In level 3, dying on the right side of the ledge in the 2nd room play the death animation in the 4th room. Its weird idk what to do with it.
In level 2, play through as normal. When you get the orb, jump off the ledge and die. You'll respawn at the other side faster. This also affects the platform cycles. When you get to the boss room, you can catch an earlier cycle. This can save a few seconds.
Currently, there is no guides or resources for this game. This isn't very important, but I'd recommend adding a link to the game in the resources or website part of the page and maybe making a few guides. It was really hard for me to figure out how to one-cycle the demon, and im sure that other new runners may have the same problems, or other issues with learning the game.
We now have a CE leaderboard! You can access it at speedrun.com/gbtce
Currently, the way runs are timed on Karlson has a problem. Normally, timing is done using real time. However, you use in game time if you have the autosplitter. This may not seem like a big deal at first, but there is a flaw with having two timing methods. Let's say that I had a time of 1:59 igt, and 2:01 real time. (My time isn't this good I suck, but this is hypothetical). Normally, this would put me in 19th place, just ahead of Handymail. But what if I didn't use the autosplitter? Now my run would use real time, not in game time. So even though my in game time is faster than Handymail's, and my real time is faster than Handymail's real time, my run is lower than his on the leaderboard. Now, you may just say that "its easy to install livesplit and the autosplitter", so just do that. But that doesn't solve the problem. I shouldn't be able to use an external tool to save time. And it doesn't fix the run that I already have (i dont actually have a 159 this is hypothetical ok). So, I suggest that the timing should be done exclusively IGT from now on. (runs that were done RTA could be grandfathered in and stay on the leaderboards, or you could retime them all. Or you could just ignore this post, I guess) "But how will we find IGT without the autosplitter" The thing is, the autosplitter isn't even necessary to find what the in game time is. You can just look at the final time on each level completed, and add them all together. I tested this on several runs, and the sum of the level times is always the same as the final time on the autosplitter. And if you pause and restart in the middle of a level, you can just find the time they paused the game, and add that to the time. So the autosplitter makes runs easier to verify, but isn't necessary to find IGT. A few other games use timing methods like this, where you just add the level times together (sonic 2 and mike tyson's punch out for example), so this would probably work, and would eliminate problems like this from happening.
I've gotten a notification for silliest's sonic, knuckles, and tails speedrun 7 times today. the exact same notification. 7 times. is anyone else having this happen? or is there something weird happening to my account that duplicates notifs
edit: sometimes i get a duplicate notif, but Ive never seen it happen 7 times in a single day
you can double jump by holding down w it only works with wasd just found this out after watching Noob. s run
