The 2020 Any% Tournament has officially started! I am really excited to see how this one will turn out. To those that didn't get in or joined the community too late, keep an eye out for the next tournament! I feel these may be able to become biannual if the community keeps growing like it is!
Here is the public schedule: http://schedule.speedgaming.org/nsmbw/ Here is the challonge page: https://challonge.com/2020nsmbw
There is a conflict within the 100% category. Should both of the levels in 1-Peach's Castle be required? Here are the 2 sides of the argument. Brammy made another ESBW TAS! This time its a 10:23 RTA timing!
If the video is too long it may be because your channel isnt verified (i think that's the word) and therefore you cannot upload videos longer than 15 minutes. I would recommend looking into that to see if that is the case. The verification process is quite easy and quick so I would recommend doing it.
I would recommend streaming to a platform like twitch so that you don't have to worry about storage space and editing or anything like that. A run with multiple clips put together could also look like 2 different runs spliced together to make a better run which could cause your run to be rejected as well.
Submissions for the 2020 Any% Tournament are now closed! Thank you to everyone who submitted! The roles for the runners and commentators will be distributed shortly and then the qualifying mini-round will begin! Be sure to tune into runner's streams to see them qualify!
Final reminder that today is the LAST DAY to submit to the 2020 any% tournament!
Everybody is welcome to join no matter what your skill level is, as long as you have a pb on src with video, and can stream! If you can’t stream but can record we can help you find a way! The bottom 8 seeds will decided through a qualifying mini-round before the actual start date so that we can get the most consistent players of the group!
Regardless of who makes it in and who doesnt, just make sure to have fun trying! After all, it is the most important rule 😉.

The thing here is that you have to modify the console for it to be possible, so I’m pretty sure it would be banned.
There is now just ONE week left to submit to the 2020 NSMBW Any% Tournament! I have made the decision to change up how the bottom 8 (of 16) people will be decided. This time, the top 8 immediately get in and the other people will have 3 attempts to get the best no reset they can. I will go into more detail in the tournament server, after submissions close.

this seems like something more fit for the discord server tbh (link is in the sidebar)
The secret exit in 3-4 is the one you get first to go to the red switch, so it's not broken afaik.
ok yea. to sum it up: every frame that the screen is black or has a level banner is a frame of loading. pipes and doors included. pipe transitions however are not loads. assuming we are calling pipe transitions the time it takes to enter and exit the pipe, not the load from the pipe.
To my knowledge, for all Midwest Speedfest online events they just grab the stream off of your Twitch page and relay that onto the restream.
At the time that I wrote that response, it wasn't clear (at least to me) that pipe and door transitions weren't loads, so that was my bad.
@Squashh_1 If you don't have a capture card you can prop a phone up and use that to record with another device running the splits, and an autosplitter function would not be possible.
@MDA_Mindmax Basically everyone the community (top runners included) split manually. It's very much precise enough and runs with video generally get retimed anyways (runs over 25:00 get retimed to make sure the time is accurate and runs under that get retimed without loads anyways).
@MDA_Mindmx most people actually do split manually. As long as you find a consistent split time (i.e. course clear, fadeout) you can generally get a fairly accurate split. Like glowy said, there is an autosplitter but that also comes with the risk of it not finding the correct image and by extent not splitting. Due to the way that autosplitters work, splitting manually is overall your best bet in my opinion.
And @BMAN there isn’t a “most accurate way to split” because it’s different for everyone.

Figured that I would post this here to hopefully bring some attention to it outside of the main NSMBW community to hopefully draw in some new runners!
I believe a loading screen is any time the screen fades to black, so levels loading in, pipe transitions, etc.

No. We aren't getting into this debate again because there isn’t an answer that will satisfy even most people for that matter. There will always be controversy around this category because we can’t make the rules super arbitrary or anything like that.
