Im also interested on what kind of "discrepancies" are considered a problem on dolphin for this, and kinda agree on Geji that it wouldn't still not realy matter that much if it is only a thing inside of the emulator category itself (doesnt affect the difference from console), depending of what that discrepancy is
Alltho it is indeed a very solid point for argumenting, im also suprissed it isnt realy brought more on these And I think is like the first reasoning from which I could differenciate Wii emulating from any other console's emulating
yea more complexity and less time of work on the cases of new consoles generaly makes less confidence for allowing their emulators, given the more chance of differences with consoles and their loads, errors, easy modifications, etc. but you can ofc stand in favour of emulators if you want to :)
@CaptNinja6 it does indeed say in submission that emulators are banned, but is completly false that there is no reason to use a switch emulator lol, check the yuzu comunity
Is true that it would make sense adding it to the actual rules, most people doesn't know there is a note about emulators being banned on submissions page unless it is marked in the rules
lol
yea there is no limitation of enchantment? is something you straight up accomplish playing the game, why there would be a limit and ofc commands are not allowed lol
btw @AnirDoesSpeedruns im kinda tired of hearing that lol I've been hearing the "community has already discussed many times about this" thingy a lot for almost 4 years now, but there are still no explanations in response to the contra-arguments that are being made about emulators. Even further than the emulators argument, it also is about people in the comunity just completly avoiding this topic for so long as if everything was alredy said about it and there was no reason for the people to keep coming with it to the forum back and forth
@DiamondcrafterA with the number of times i've seen people want emulators throught time, i don't think that realy makes a big problem. It doesn't realy matter that much how much activity it has in respect to the main version, and if it would get more submissions than VC then why not (once again, i've argumented back it not being an "official version" in other eyes). And well, it alredy has a bunch of runs in the google document from Toogs (even if those usualy atract a lot less of attention than actual SRC leaderboards). Leaderboard wouldn't hurt anyone.
@BillyJoe66 lol is literaly the New Super Mario Bros Wii rom, playing the same way, just on a different digital system I don't think that should make as a reason for it not to by viable as the same game You can have your own mentality and prefer Wii for the feeling of it, but there will be ton of people with Wii emulator that Wii frankly don't give a damn about whether they are playing on console or on emulator (I do not care, as someone uses both)
@An_D good for you, but you can easily go to follow setting and unactivate the following notifications if that's your problem, you're welcome. And btw it isn't unnecessary for the people that came with this thread for a reason
Geji made a great point there, apparently "Any thread about emulator will be deleted from now", which kinda has been not allowing people to give arguments in favour of emulators for the past almost 4 years that it has been up, even if there are actual good arguments to discuse over the points given in that post (it is treated as if it cleared all the doubts, but it genuely doesnt) And im not sure how fair of a comparition is comparing it to VC as it is rather an official version of the game
@JoshTGR what does it mean "not having the same accuracy that console does"? Well anyhow, once again, any difference on emulator inputs and loadings, whether is for better or for worst, are just a discrepance more with the console leaderboard that wouldn't matter at all if it was, as it is the idea, a different leaderboard via a subcategorization of both boards. It doesn't realy make a problem
Is also no need to go so far as "a leaderboard per emulator lol", if you wanna make it more accurate just force 1 concrete emulator for the whole category (Dolphin ig lol), it will make most of the work as anyone can access that one emulator as easy as any other, no need to accept every single one. And here and there I've seen some variety of emulation interest over the time i've been over here
And what is the argument for "just doesn't want unofficial ways to play the game" / "not being an official release matters a lot" And btw who cares about the status quo on other sides of SRC lol, each game will have to look for itself on what is convenient for it's particular case
(btw i found funny the coincidence that the 2 mods answered one to the other in an only 6 minutes spare on a 37 hours old thread lol)
@Toogs yea it was a great decision to create that unofficial sheet if someone was happy going on with it, so great job :D But ey doesnt mean someone can't argue for an actual official leaderboard
It will run worst on emulator for people with bad PC's, but at least it will be a viable option for people with good PC's, so is something, and those with the bad PC's will at least have the chance to make a submission on lb even if their are not lucky enough to have a better optimal game It won't realy damage anyone the leaderboard. There will still be some problems with it, but removing an emulators leaderboard for that is like fixing a broken stair by detonating the whole house yk, you wouldn't fix the problem. Now nor the good PC emu players neither the bad PC emu players are happy
@SioN i would consider you could do some better inversions than that xd, but it still stands as a great point (Finland is expensive lol)
I agree on Volza that you can't just go and say “just buy the damn game” and “it ain’t that expensive” as arguments lol, that is directly attacking the financial situation of each individual outside of the gaming comunity Even if it isnt like "that much money" in this case, if they have alredy a way to play it in emulator and are used to it, you can't just force people to throw on their money to be accepted while denying emulators arguments because "they aren't needed anyways, just buy it" And well you can also argue for that one classic 14 years old user that straight up doesn't get any money yet (no job or anything) anbd might have more difficulties to get it past (you need your parents to get it for you)
To avoid thge cheating problem, you can generaly just record full-screen of dolphin with the borders data showing whether it is a movie playing or it is an RTA game Also, a lot of problems may just come from differences betwen emulators that can be fixed allowing only 1 of them, which wouldn't be a problem because anyone can get any emulator; make it dolphin exclusive for example (after all dolphin is the one wii emulator known of all times)
Btw the kidney example was odd lol, but i agree that "you dont need a leaderboard to run it" doesnt make a lot of sense as implies the same on every leaderboard on this site: we need a further explanation on what makes unnecesary the leaderboard over other leaderboards like the existing ones of this very game. If "leaderboards are not necesary" you might as well the entirety of this game from SRC lol, "not like it is needed to speedrun anyways"
true, the run: https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/run/z5e170ez
If they are alredy accepting slowruns with the whole purpose of being the longest possible, having a limit time for the slowrun over the 340 hours that is alredy a thing would be a nonsense Now, no one ensures you it will be accepted if you do a slowrun: mods of the games are always on the right of banning those "speedruns" that cleary do not attempt to actualy be fast (more if instead they do the exact opposit, with characteristics like waiting without doing nothing for 8 hours straight or that kind of stuff) But there are alredy a few longruns of hundreds of hours in the leaderboard, so apparently there should be no problem in this lb to submit runs as long as you can
good luck on the run btw
yea you can use stream saves for video proof
yea likely, but it sounds overcomplicated to do, mainly annoying because of having to reset it for every attempt i would agree with @Pear that, in the case of a new category, just make an NG+, where you play all the any% levels on an alredy completed file
