They should be. It should be a direct port of the NES game. The only difference would be the frame rate, since the HDMI rate is very slightly slower (so much slower, you'll lose only a second over 10 minutes of gameplay compared to the original NES version). That difference is miniscule unless you're going for WR though.
The Switch version is acceptable for play. However, the "special" version is only valid for it's own category over in the extensions page.
Step 1: go up to bombs (or where bombs would normally sit on the shelf) Step 2: when shopkeeper turns up, immediately go down. Step 3: just before you hit the door, press down+right diagonally and go through the door. Step 4: 👮🚓🚨
I am humbly requesting moderator status for https://www.speedrun.com/Zelda_Game_and_Watch
I have reached out to the sole moderator on Discord and haven't received a reply; normally i would give it more time, but they haven't been active on Twitch or SR.com in months, and this exact same thing happened to the existing WR when that runner set that record.
The moderator has been inactive on SR.com for 3 months as well.
I like the idea of sorting PBs. You could also just make the entire list all sortable. Sortable by newest run, oldest run, highest position on leaderboards, or most popular games (boards with the most runners), and maybe other options that I haven't considered. Something like that would be pretty sweet :)
Is there a board (or option) for this? Myself and a few other runners just did a run on a real machine here at SGDQ :)
Ironically, I'm looking for this game too, and the page linked above seems to be a broken link. I can't find it in search either. Anyone can help?
I'm sure it's just an oversight (since most runners prefer original hardware for a number of reasons, few people run on anything other than NES, even if it's emulator). I'm not an admin, but I'm 99% certain Switch is allowed, and if it's not, it definitely should be (unless there's a specific reason why it wouldn't).
I tried on Discord with no reply. The WR has changed hands at least 4 times in the last 2 weeks with no runs being verified, and despite his being active somewhere on sr.com, he hasn't replied to forum posts or Discord, nor my whisper on Twitch. He doesn't allow messages on Twitter.
Requesting to mod BS Legend of Zelda
BTW I'm referring to the original game which is split into 4 different roms... not a patched version of it that works in one playthrough.
http://bszelda.zeldalegends.net/bs1files.shtml has more information. I was thinking of the patched version of the original leaked ROMS by Roto. I dunno... would be nice to find a way to run that game.
You could also require players to pause their timer (or manually add time back to their final split) but that will be a colossal PITA lol)
Any thoughts?
OK so these were my thoughts on the category I'm going to run (and organize a race for)
8-Triforces
Collect all 8 triforces and time stops when you enter Ganon's lair with 8 triforces, and all items required to defeat Ganon.
Because Ganon is fought on a global timer, making a speedrun "impossible", time stops when you enter the lair, however, you must defeat Ganon to validate the run. If you die to Ganon, then you must un-do your last split (and time will stop when you successfully defeat Ganon.
The run is timed in an RTA and does not stop when switching roms/packs. Time starts when you select your file before week 1. All 4 weeks must be played in succession.
Use of the English patch is allowed, just list your run as done on the USA version.
(the reason any% is likely not going to work as a category is because of the required wait for Ganon. This means the best player in the world will be within seconds at best of anyone that can get to Ganon before time allows the fight to start. Before I was ever a speedrunner, I would usually reach his chamber with 15-20 minutes to spare. Stopping the timer at entry to Ganon's chamber would allow for the time to be pushed lower, and with the required kill of Ganon afterwards to validate the run, it would still require planning ahead... if you have only 1 rupee for example, do you risk going into Ganon's chamber saving time on the way?)
I am interested in an 8-triforces run across all games in an RTA, where time stops the moment you enter Ganon's chamber (like how NES Zelda's swordless run ends entering Ganon's chamber). If I were to run this as a proof-of-concept, could we get a category made?
A few of us in the NES Z1 community are planning an 8-triforces race April 1st, so it would be neat to see :D
There's surprisingly little information out there about this. I am almost tempted to put a Game Genie code in where I cannot die or something, and just kill all the things with save states and no pressure to see what happens. It would be nice to determine where, exactly, these extra lives occur.
The rule's wording in the category's rules was incorrectly stated, and that was an error on my part. Unless there's any major reasons why I should reconsider, effective immediately, the wording "you only have three lives!" has been replaced with "you cannot game over or it doesn't count!"
(At 50,000 points, you receive an extra life. This is an intended mechanic of the game).
I don't know why the background was added (I did not do it and personally I kind of like it) but yeah, I'd like some more feedback before I simply just remove it. If I were the one that added it I'd change it.
gsampson35 showcased that it's possible to get 50,000 points in this game and did so quickly. if there's interest in another category we can add another category :) just let me know!
Hello! I'm about to run Cheetahman on real hardware/cart and obviously the intro is super ridiculously long. Is it permitted to game over instead of a fresh reset to start a new run? Because if not, OMG lol.
