So I was trying to get the WR for Solo Zonga and found out when I loaded my state (in the battle formation screen) that I would record from, my battles only took a few different paths. So I started investigating, and figured out that your battle "RNG" heavily depends upon when you start the battle. I believe this battle RNG seed is set when you hit Start!, and comes in cycles. I think this because when I started the battles on the exact same frame, I could go through the menu-ing RTA (meaning different inputs would be on different frames, which would make you think RNG would be different) and get the exact same result every time, down to the damage dealt by Squiro, the attack performed by the Z-Rex, and even whether I got a critical hit or not. This... is actually gonna be invaluable information to me when I TAS this game, but I figured you guys would find this interesting to know in your runs.

When you fight Lester for the second time at the BB Base in NG+, is it even possible to one-shot his team with Hibi and B-Plesio? If it is, it's another perfect RNG thing like with the battle against Pauleen's Mask. Just wondering if anyone knew this or if someone could plug it into the damage calculator that I think is in the Discord.

In case you didn't know, you can hold up-right instead of just up when trying to get movement off of the door text, which means you don't have to be as precise with your position when talking to K_K, so you can be a little farther to the left than people say. Figured this would help people not have to tap right to get the right position and maybe save some time?

So I was working on a TAS of FFC Any% with a Japanese copy of the game and saw that a lot of the dialogue had to use extra textboxes compared to the English version. I believe this is because of how large the characters are in the Japanese version, leading to more room being taken up by text, and subsequently more textboxes being needed. This is honestly the first time I've seen the English version being faster text-wise, and I plan on making a complete TAS in English. GGs, and may RNGesus smile on your runs. Also if someone could share this is the speedrunning channel in the FF discord please and thank you.

P.S. I was able to clean the Tricera head perfectly with juuuuust under 77 seconds to spare. There's a lot of X-Ray and hammer spamming lol

I never thought this post was against anyone, but I do understand your reasoning for your position. Also, I forgot you could do AR on the DS and that you could export saves.

Ouch... The only reason I ran for this category is that I don't have a method of recording an entire NG+ run, let alone putting it on YouTube because of the thing where you have to give it a phone number (I don't have a phone). But I see where you're coming from. The only thing I have going for me is basically "Dude trust me", whether I'm putting in my first run or I've been in the speedrunning community for a while. So, honestly, I can't say I'm for a rule change, simply because it would lock me out of running for now. However, like I said, I completely get where you're coming from. However, I am curious: How did you manage that with a physical DS instead of an emulator? I realize it sounds a bit shady but I found that interesting. Thanks for bringing this to light.

GGs! I'm hoping to get a JP copy of FFC so I can do better NG+ runs. But yeah, congrats on breaking the 5-hour barrier.

The first glitch ever used in FF speedrunning. So proud lol

I found one. Finally! The sad part is, it most likely wouldn't save any time in RTA. When Petrified Woods is unlocked for the first time, there's a staff member there and a cutscene trigger in front of her where she says Joe told her to let you go. You can skip over this trigger by clipping into the diagonal part of the wall and making your way to the left, where you can go into Petrified Woods and dig up the Sardinisaurus rock like usual. The problem is, the cutscene is so short, if it were to save time, it would probably be less than a second. Sad. I was doing a lengthy "speedrun" of FFC NG+ and tried to "skip" every cutscene I could find, and this was the only example so far of where you could skip a cutscene and were able to progress the story afterwards. It's most likely TAS-only just because it's not worth it in RTA. But anyway, I'll be back in the Discord and everything on the 1st of November, and I have a time to submit then. See you guys then, and may RNGesus be smiling on you guys. God knows we need it.

All I can say is the menuing can be faster, but otherwise a good first run on the leaderboard. I might try the category sometime.

Kentucky, USAGuanlongX2 years ago

I don't see the point of the level leaderboard. There's a bunch of random categories that hardly anyone has ran, and I don't think that FFC actually has "levels", unless you count the rounds of the Cup. I just find it odd when I look at it compared to something like a Mario game, which is designed around having levels.

So, we've discovered something. There's a glitch that was found a while ago that I dubbed the "Hole Glitch". It involves digging a hole between you and a wall, going between the hole and the wall, and digging at the hole so you can get pushed into the wall.

Recently, a member of the Fossil Fighters Discord called megalo-vania has discovered a method using the hole glitch which allows you to access the 2 blocked-off areas early. This means we can get Lambeo and other vivosaurs early. Given how powerful Lambeo is, I want to get some more opinions as to whether or not this could result in a routing change. I don't really even know the route today, except for TheAwesomeDJ's WR and the one old guide in the Guides tab. If you have anything to say about this, thank you. Sub 5-hour goals!

This feels like a pretty odd category, to be honest. If you have the game already done, then it's literally just optimizing movement. If you do it in Any%, like Falcon said, it's just a waste of an Any% run. I think it'd be better if you started from the postgame. The only questions I have would be: Is there going to be a certain required starting position (i.e. from the helipad of any of the 3 islands)? And what counts as the back wall for certain digsites with more than one area? i.e. pretty much every site.

This is the only game I speedrun, Fossil Fighters: Champions. It's a relatively long game, and I think that turns away a lot of runners. Here's the leaderboard: https://www.speedrun.com/ffc Honestly, the game is kind of hard to access right now because of stupid scalpers, but if you can get your hands on one, I think the game is worth it. Lots of people say it's a Pokemon ripoff, though, and... I don't think that's true at all. But I digress. Any% is sort of fun in my opinion, but probably my least favorite of the 2 main categories. I prefer NG+, but it's a very simple run, where all you do is spam one or two attacks in fights, mash dialogue, and try to have optimal movement using a combination of the Touch Screen and D-Pad. But if this post attracts a new runner, I'm all for it!

Fossil Fighters: Champions Any%. The run is approximately 4 hours long. The current WR is 3 hours, 32 minutes in-game time, but the IGT calculator is broken in this game. It's a very RNG dependent run, trust me, and there are absolutely zero discovered skips to speed up the run.
