This is something we've talked about for quite a long time but never really thought about doing it this way. We originally wanted the option built into speedrun.com but then this idea came up.
This column will default to yes. It is only for times that have videos of poor quality. We're still working on it so it's not going to be totally accurate for a bit.
This does not mean times without a video will be allowed in the future. It is purely for videos that don't quite meet the quality standards. On the submission page you can just ignore the drop-down.
I have no idea where you're seeing a "-" place.
There shouldn't be any emu runs in the N64 tab
IGT sometimes slips through 'cause people don't realise you don't need to touch it for RTA as it's only for single star but it doesn't really stand out when verifying. It's a tiny bit of text so it's easy to miss and once it's on 1 run then the entire leaderboard gets a new column. I've fixed that now though.
Those have now been changed. If you wanna go through all the PAL runs and check for us that'd be appreciated. PAL leaderboards really just aren't a priority for us.
It's just the same codes as what you'd use on GS
You can do quite a lot with a GS v3.x and yes you'll pretty much need an expansion pak. I only really recommend saving for an ED if you're really serious about the game or if money isn't really an issue. GS are about 1/5th the price of an ED and you can still get pretty efficient practice out of it.
No one would be able to agree on what a glitch is. Some think Lakitu skip is a glitch but it isn't really.
Then comes the discussion of "intended" but who knows what's really intended.
No as Lyfey said all of them require different things and that's something that comes with practice.
For the HMC BLJ I assume you mean the really difficult one for toxic maze? Not entirely sure why you're doing that right now but you don't need to press A super fast the whole way up. As long as you're BLJing fast enough to keep BLJing, you can keep that momentum up until you need to start moving backward on the elevator and that's when you need to mash fast.
Useful codes can be found here: https://sites.google.com/site/sm64gameshark/codes
Yes you can use an American GS/Expansion pak for the Japanese game.
I believe there's a few but the hold down one is the easiest. Idk what the others are though can't remember.
Oh I see now. That's because of the capture card you're using. You can actually see the flash from when you power on (this flash would be frame 1 of a retime, read my retiming guide). The game still continues to play so it's just not going to show those few seconds. The important part is still there though (the flash) so this would be fine.
I've never heard of that before, can you make a video showing what you mean?
Basically people here are arguing against it because they don't actually know how checking the runs to see if they were spliced works. That method wouldn't be possible if someone had spliced a run, recorded it with a webcam then submit. They also don't understand how timing accurately works either.
Here is a document I made showing an old 16 star time to be spliced: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rnNAlPztsCP5OLK4pBBuqLQIQnB990uP6oG8DWz1Yxs/edit
Here is my guide on how to retime your runs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XubWSMq_WFcmuy5c5zHHFo_CuiFQs635T2MKWzcj8Ug/edit
Regarding reset button no longer being allowed for those times...it's possible to use a GameShark to do runs while using the reset button and we don't know the exact way this interacts with the game. Also, with reset button, you lose 1 second just from resetting because time starts as soon as the game fades out. This takes longer than turning on the console. It's overall a beneficial change. There's no downside to this change unless someone has a broken power switch but that's a very rare thing. There's also no need to worry about wear. We have all been using the switch for years when doing runs and they're fine.
