I must have put the wrong platform, sorry! haha
The stickied post about versions mention JAA, UAA, EAA. There's two other versions though - AAA & AAB. At least AAB was dumped after that post was made, maybe AAA as well. Should they be added?
I've only tried them briefly, but it seems like the saw car in stage 1 was removed in v.AAB (!).
Yes, we'd create a new category on the SGnG GBA boards for that. Not sure there'd be much interest in that run though, it lags less in the original stages iirc but the raft ride is extra slow as far as i can tell haha.
I am not a mod, but I don't see a reason as to why not. For a perhaps more reassuring answer, try asking on the Ghouls Series Discord - https://discord.gg/K6Q5AyN
Made a post about a problematic background here a while ago and was told to link the page - here it is (only a month later!): https://www.speedrun.com/Super_Ghouls_n_Ghosts_GBA
Like I mentioned earlier, I can only see the intended bg color by doing ctrl-shift-R in chrome, and even after that, regular reloads will turn the bg white again.
I've edited the theme of a game, and the BG color goes missing/gray. Doing a force reload (ctrl shift R in chrome) loads the correct BG color, but if I now leave->re-enter or press F5 the BG goes gray again. What's happening there? A missing color forever cached?
Could names maybe be aligned to the left on a leaderboard? I find it much easier to read when it looks like this - Of course, since i did the mockup by hand i could place names without flags just in the right spot too. Most people have flags though, so if flagless names have to get aligned with the flag, it'd still probably look better than now anyway.
VGMaps have chests in their maps, but they're missing a couple of them: http://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperGhoulsNGhosts
I've also made a lua script for bizhawk which displays the chest triggers: https://pastebin.com/HAvi3MdT
Finally, I've made a series of tutorial videos which are played with the above mentioned script. They're rather long however and more meant to document the strats I've learned, so probably not your best bet if chests is the only thing you wanna know.
Since you're only doing 7/15 stages with that, the category should be called 46.6%! Haha.
Anyway, I don't think the game being too difficult is a very valid reason. People speedrun even harder games like the SMW romhacks or the "I wanna be the X" games. If you're having trouble with astaroth & nebiroth, you could always check out the tutorial vid i made: some shameless self-promotion right there, oh yeah!

While I don't run the game, I'm sure it's fine. It's probably just phrased like that because Raphael is the most common choice for his superior stats. There's really nothing stopping you from submitting a time with another turtle, I'd say.
