Been looking into this trick for a little bit. Thus far this is the only trick in the speedrun which I have no idea how it's done. Can someone explain it to me?

you can do whatever you want, the run will be accepted if it's legitimate.

I probably shouldn't have mentioned that detail, because it probably won't impact you, but I'll explain myself anyway: Say you have a 2 player run, and two people have a run. If both players have a better time with someone else, because of this site it'll hide that run by default, as it's noone's pb. Same thing applies with more players, every player needs to have a better pb with another team for it to hide it.

Just ignore me tbh

Yes, you can have 2 teams. Only thing worth noting is that a pb won't show on the leaderboard if the team does a run but everyone in the team has a better run with a different team.

Things to note about recording with demos:

  • If you complete a map normally, the demo will simply transfer over to the next map, no rerecording needed
  • You DO need to rerecord (record a demo with a new name, don't use the same name if you want to keep the demos to your run) if you either die or load a save
  • However, if you want to simplify this further, you are allowed to install SourceAutoRecord (if you want it, ask for it), which will record a new demo everytime a previous demo closes. Some people don't do this because they're lazy, but you can.

Regarding the resources:

  • The first one (if you exclude discord) is the primary one to time runs AFTER they've happened (or to time other kinds of demos). If you're looking for a timer for ones, do NOT use this one, as it does not reflect the time for the first and last maps properly.
  • The second one is the third one but beta version essentially
  • The third one, SourceLiveTimer, is the most recommended one as it does all functions of the second one and more. These latter two timers will automatically correct times for the first and last map, but for the last map you MUST wait until the real cutscene starts (about 30 seconds into shooting the moon, about when you see the coop dudes).

Don't listen to aspect ever btw. He's right about recordings carrying over but livesplit ain't accurate and SLT is not hard to setup. If you need help setting up SourveLiveTimer, feel free to ask as well

Note: As of right now, due strictly to error on srcom's part, runs that include out of bounds are hidden, you have to go to "Filters" and re-select "Any" (Yes and No will be shown) for it to be shown. We may talk with srcom people later to try and get this issue resolved

EDIT: Resolved

Over the past couple of weeks, there has been a lot of debate in the Portal 2 Community regarding Out of Bounds tricks in Single Segment. A while ago, users Krzyhau and Sunsetbear realized some ways to get out and back in bounds without saveloading, allowing for up to 2 minutes and 30 seconds of timesave, in maps such Column Blocker and Wall Button.

As a result of the debate, we have made the decision to make it a variable at this moment. When submitting a run, there will be an extra option that says "Out of Bounds". If you go out of bounds (this doesn't include pseudo-oob such as going above the ceiling in Secret Panel, you must be completely outside of the level), you must check this as "yes" (and we will check).

We will also allow the command "r_portal_use_pvs_optimization 0", which allows you to see out of bounds.

If you have any questions about this change, please feel free to ask, but I do not recommend arguing against this. Enough discussion has gone into this and this idea was near unanimously tolerated. However, if it seems that one category begins to overshadow the other, we may consider changing them into separate categories in the future.

  1. Adding full game categories for maps is not reasonable because none of the custom maps are part of the core game

  2. You can either put gelocity runs on znernicus' post (that noone uses) for custom chamber speedruns or I could ask if there is a doc somewhere to the discord boys

The only reason you would do any% is to do block glitch, which is absurd as a main category as it is a borderline illegal for the server (something which makes many multiplayer game speedruns not necessarily friendly to an "Any%"). Digger assist doesn't really work for any category other than digger, and there isn't anything else. Wait until there's something substantial to add before you add it at all

"hl is a sub-category" hello?

What kind of segmented run is it? Unless it's one of those really obnoxious ones with a couple hundred segments or for something major you could probably manage with simple first-tick console opening and recording a new demo every time (which is what I do for my segmenteds (segmenteds have never been good in portal 2)).

If you do need specifically something more automatic, I'll ask but I don't have access to it at this moment.

The right way is to have Mineplex be a good server
