"pressing the 0 key during the mutant in the military base and the overseer"

0 key should also be used to skip all cutscenes and ending screens (just hold the key, no need to mash it)

-lieutenant dialogue animation short(RNG)

Not sure what this means. If you're referring to my segmented run, I simply use a different dialog combination (I think it's 211), where the animation doesn't happen.

Can you please explain these 2?

-Quick bomb explosion in military base(RNG)(SS) -Wait time for bomb to explode at Cathedral(BS/SS)

Here are some tricks I found a week ago and are present in my segmented run:

-Instead of blowing up the robe guy next to Lieutenant, use C4 (dynamite in SS) on shopkeeper in Citadel. And since you can rest there, you don't have to set the explosion timer to 0:10 and you also skip waiting for it to go off. SS strategy would be to tag Steal and plant the bomb directly on the shopkeeper, otherwise there's a high chance of combat. -There're some hotkeys I've never seen anyone use - Enter for ending combat and setting the explosion timer, arrowkeys for scrolling down the inventory (can be also used for scrolling the map, but it's slow), 0 for skipping cutscenes, dialogs and ending screens, M for changing mouse cursor and Z for rest. Generally, all keys in Fallout 1 can be held to do stuff as soon as the game allows it. -Instant Overseer dialog - Can be also seen in barrow's RTA run. I really wonder if this trick is just pure rng, or there is something that affects it. -Mouse cursor placement - You can move your mouse cursor blindly during elevator rides to position it in specific direction. Needs practice. The cursor can be shortly seen during the map loading (maybe like 3 frames on my PC). -As DrTChops found, spamming the movement can be slightly faster. It only seems to work when you run diagonally in southwest and southeast directions.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I hate you don't get a notification when someone creates a thread in the series forum :(

I agree with your proposition, although how about we create topcategories for difficulties and subcategories for Any%/IL Rush? I fear the IL Rush category won't have many runs, so it will probably end up as empty.

Also, make sure that the IL Rush category doesn't allow segments, otherwise we may as well allow segmented runs :)

Cadarev, Moonfane: Have you guys thought about creating a guide for new players? The Area51 section on TombRunner.net doesn't explain all the new tricks and glitches.

Just an idea ;)

That doesn't mean you shouldn't provide a video ;)

Czech RepublicEwil9 years ago

I guess the runner should explain himself. It would be pretty stupid to livestream with some sort of advantage, though.

Czech RepublicEwil9 years ago

Are you sure? He apparently did over 1000 attempts to overcome bad luck.

Can we see any proof of the new times?

Czech RepublicEwil9 years ago

I think I might have original UK copy somewhere as well. I'll try it again on weekend.

Czech RepublicEwil9 years ago

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean - tutorials for street-x, drag and drifts. Maybe there is some issue with my game as I used some sort of US-UK converter found via google. It needs to be tested further for sure.

Seven: 5 seconds is a lot of time in IL :) It doesn't matter for any other stage as you only get these tutorial cutscenes in stage 1.

I'm interested in a segmented category, not Hard difficulty :)

"I didn't notice a tendency that people choose the easiest skill levels in speedruns, in general. In TASes it's almost always the hardest setting, and it's clearly stated what is the setting of the run. Same with standarized (SDA) runs."

Most RTA speedruns are done on easiest or fastest difficulty due to unexpected rng, more safety and it's also usually faster. TASes are done on hardest difficulty, because you can literally segment every frame, which is a huge advantage. Runs on SDA are mostly segmented, thus you can easily restart if you fail, so they are quite often played on hardest difficulty unless there's a big difference.

If you could deliver the same time on Hard as on Easy, then such run would be better for sure. If not, it's pointless.

Nicely done.

Mods forgot to set "runs need verification".

barrowsmane mentioned something about getting the mutant in MB stuck, so maybe that's it? :)

Nice, can't wait to see.

So, I was going through the game files and found out that every in-game sound is specified in a script. It looks like this:

audio\sounds\wetrainloop.wav /2D /LOOP /FREQ=22050 /VOL=-900

If I change the VOL to lower values, it fixes the annoyingly loud rain sound on PC version, which probably cannot be fixed in any other way (apart from modifying the audio file itself, but modifying in script is way easier). I'm aware this is modifying the game files, but it doesn't change anything gameplaywise, only volume of certain sounds like rain or "Loose the tail, man" voices.

Are you guys okay with it?

Czech RepublicEwil9 years ago

So, I've tested UK version today and it seems like you don't get the tutorial cutscenes in stage 1, which should save some time.

Just use the hi-res patch, which supports Direct3D.

As far as I remember, people were using Hypercam or Camtasia for old 2D games.

So why is Charisma such useless stat if you can have it at 5 and pass every check? :) That should save some time since you don't have to distribute any points, right?
