Fuck if I know lol

Pohjanmaa, FinlandDustiel4 years ago

I recall maybe designing the rules specifically with that in mind because I thought it'd be funny. Heh. I'll probably just change it maybe. Also livewell showing would only really provide convenience for run verification and nothing more so I dunno.

I also designed the timing rules to be completely nonsensical and inconvenient so there's that too I guess :^)

Emulators aren't allowed, no

Pohjanmaa, FinlandDustiel7 years ago

No, it's just 2 minutes. In 100% you require a save file in the run for a strat anyway so it'd be entirely pointless and any% is only 30-ish minutes with very little outside of minor RNG things that can even go wrong. So it's not exactly a viable idea, except with any% but who really cares about irrelevant categories like that?

Well, I just went through PAL PS2, NTSC PS2, PAL Xbox and PC. Doesn't work on any, so no fucking wonder nobody ever found this.

Pohjanmaa, FinlandDustiel7 years ago

The OoB thing has a setup, you can do a horn dive and it pushes you into the correct spot.

Pohjanmaa, FinlandDustiel7 years ago

Nope, emulation isn't allowed and it probably never will be.

PS2 version is non-viable due to having different collision detection mechanics, which makes it impossible to skip acquiring double jump at the start of the run. As for Xbox and GCN, they're the same game but Xbox loads faster. NTSC region also always has faster loads than PAL by a little bit.

PS2 can do the text box skip at the Nui-Jaga, it's just that it's a bit precise due to different collision detection between the versions. PS2 is the only one with "unique" collision whereas GCN, Xbox and PC versions are more or less the same version, thus having similar collision detection. This is also what affects Onua skip.

PS2 is also complete garbage so it needs to stop in the middle of Onua's and Lewa's levels to load the next chunk every now and then.

One very unique difference is that the Xbox version played on the Xbox 360 has the very interesting property of unlocking its framerate here and there. The game literally goes at double speed at some spots and it's really dumb.

Generally speaking, for speed, aim for NTSC region. As far as what console, I don't know, I just know PC seems to be the slowest, ironically enough.

Pohjanmaa, FinlandDustiel7 years ago

I don't think I could put a # on the actual amount of time, all I know is that it's the usual thing of NTSC being 60 FPS while PAL is 50 FPS. This also causes PAL to have slightly different collision/physics, which is also a generic effect of the lower frame rate. This is why the Evil Air skips might be harder on PAL.

Pohjanmaa, FinlandDustiel7 years ago

Yes, that'd be the PAL version, it's slower. Due to the differing frame rate, that skip works differently on PAL and I personally could never really get it to work properly on that version.

As for how it works on the NTSC version, fuck if I know, it just works.

Pohjanmaa, FinlandDustiel7 years ago

The problem with 100% is that the NTSC version seems to have this weird and extremely specific game crash in Great Brain Robbery. I think in the last Kim section, if you've collected everything else in the level up until then, one of the enemies will cause the game to crash upon dying. However, the PAL version does function, but, still, I have no idea who'd be insane enough to want to do 100%.

As for, well, All Costumes, I suppose, I dunno if there's really any interesting routing you could do with that, but, really what do I know. I've thought about adding like a special category for all the secret levels since those could be interesting, though.

Honestly, not really, given the fact that there's not much you can do to optimize the stuff in the first place, plus the lack of competition already for the full game would probably mean even less competition for ILs, so, yeah, doesn't really seem highly necessary at this time.

Pohjanmaa, FinlandDustiel7 years ago

The Japanese version has slightly longer loading screens, by about 0.3 seconds on average.

Pohjanmaa, FinlandDustiel7 years ago

Audio isn't a requirement but that shit is gonna be an exceptionally boring watch, I'll tell you that much.

We're still awaiting confirmation on the Crash 2 thing.

We took them off because there's no reason to have them. The "records" weren't exactly being kept track of properly, since there were mostly really bad IL runs submitted as "world records" that, in reality, most of us runners would beat on a daily basis in practice by minutes without even trying. Kind of a pointless leaderboard in that case, if you ask me.

Pohjanmaa, FinlandDustiel8 years ago

You can probably get the rest of the game from just watching the run, it's pretty straightforward stuff.

Requesting mod for Bionicle http://www.speedrun.com/bionicle_/

The sole mod does absolutely jack shit. The boards are a mess and there's runs that need to be verified. We're finally seeing some actual activity for this game so this is actually becoming an issue.
