There are so many rpgs. Based on the games you have run you seem to like more the action rpg style. How about The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, or one of my favorites, Ys: Oath of Felghana? Ninja Gaiden Black is incredible too, was watching a couple speedruns from that recently.

United StatesCoolHandMike6 years ago

@Liv Interesting, was not aware of those. Do you remember any examples in particular with suspected cheated runs on SDA?

United StatesCoolHandMike6 years ago

@OuaisMaisNan Yea that sounds pretty bland to watch and to play with a game made so limited. Nice answer!

United StatesCoolHandMike6 years ago

Do you know of any relevant cases of cheating in speedrunning?

There are several famous examples of cheaters in the arcade scene. You probably saw those in the videos. There is a lot of information about those events in videos and forums etc.

Of any relevant rulings in communities to prevent illegitimate runs?

In SDA, speeddemosarchive, at least you need to submit video and audio, to have it verified by community members that no cheating took place, and for speedrun quality. I do not know of any runs that got rejected for cheating on that site. It is a bit more strict than this site where the same person that posts a run can be the same person that verifies it. Also SDA requires the run be done using the original hardware that came with it which removes emulator issues. Typically over on SDA multiple people verify each video. Every one I have seen that got rejected on SDA was related to the quality of the speedrun or technical issues.

"What is a speedrun?" "Wow who is this TAS guy? He is REALLY good!" "Are they cheating?" .... lol

No the times would be different. Also there is at least one skip I know of in the original that is not in Black. Also Black has other bosses and such. Watch/Play it through once and you will see they are not the same.

@TicTacBean Fortnite I have no idea, never played it. but it does not look bad. And what do memes have anything to do with speedrunning it? Any other reasons for a speedrun of it poor? I do think unskippable cutscenes are bad, however SMS is quite good though so I think there are worse games to speedrun out there for sure.

@MylesMcCrone Realms of the Haunting is not engaging to watch by any means ahah. I just watched 5 minutes and have no idea what's going on and the guy is just running and clicking stuff. You can skip cutscenes which seems great in there since apparently there are tons of cutscenes in normal gameplay. Is there anything particular about running it that is bad besides well it looking really boring?

United StatesCoolHandMike6 years ago

Lol well I found a game that I think would fit...but it is so offensive I will not even post it because I might get banned! I do not even want to play it at all...

United StatesCoolHandMike6 years ago

@Makarazium Can you even speedrun those types of games? WoW and the FF mmo have a story line but do those other ones even have story to beat?

United StatesCoolHandMike6 years ago

@Goliath Hahah nice one. Well what made me want to make this thread was because there was a bizarre post with the same title two weeks ago that seemed to have nothing to do with a "worst game to speedrun". Actually curious to see what people might say.

United StatesCoolHandMike6 years ago

What game is worst game to speedrun in your opinion?

  1. Displeasing to Speedrunners
  2. Displeasing to Viewers
  3. Perhaps has some deep technical issues or bugs that really destroy the experience

Thoughts?

"I have a dream that one day..." lol Well I have had social anxiety pretty much my whole life and now in my early 30s I feel I finally have a good grasp of it. Going through school and work was very difficult, but all those people that told me that I would get used to it were right. Even if it only took over 10 years. The anxiety pretty much controlled my life for a long time. I have a couple goals/dreams. So far I completed some things on my list. Surviving into adulthood. Getting a steady job. Getting a house was another one. Have a couple more dreams. Now the other ones I have are: Find a good girl. Start a family. Learn to draw decently. Get better at guitar. Get better at programming. Compose music. Create a couple video games. Perhaps start a company. Been rattling around in my head for a while. Recently I was threatened to be fired since I was on the phone in front of the office for a couple minutes. That really has changed my view of my "stable job". Gotta love how in the good ol USA companies can fire you for no reason seemingly. Learn more biology and in some way contribute to advances against diseases. ??? PROFIT!! .. And video game speedruns! Want to do Mother Russia Bleeds, Shinobi III, Azure Striker Gunvolt, and another Dark Wizard Speedrun. Does not need to be WR, since I have other things on my plate I am working on...

That wall zipping like that is the same the TAS uses. I was playing with it a bit and realized it is humanly possibly to do though so I thought people might find that interesting. Fusion makes it easier to do it seems. Kind of the same with how Fusion makes the wall clips easier and makes the character go deeper into the ceiling.

I do not think my first clip in the last level is that fast. You waste a lot of time going up. Running seems faster than clip walking through walls. Found it cool though.

United StatesCoolHandMike7 years ago

Cool. Oddly enough I found that only a couple days ago. I did not think the whole thing through like you did. I was just messing around with clipping. I should edit all those clips I recorded and put them together.

I uploaded some...but whether or not they are useful is something I am not completely sure of.

There are also different categories that you can submit a game in usually. Or you could request a "glitchless" run category for the game of your choice if it does not exist. Glitching is not something that everyone likes obviously. Games with large skips like Bloodborne with the OOB glitches remove a lot of the content. However, there are a lot of old school games that don't have too many glitches like Ninja Gaiden for NES or Castlevania for NES.

So apparently you press B and C alternately? I think i get one or two out every once and a while but I cannot do that consistently. Any other tips?

Personally I have little to no interest in high scores. I won't be grinding for points. Points in a lot of games is meaningless anyway in most games I like. This seems more like a preservation effort more than anything. It would be cool to watch for some games like shooters or in certain modes of some games I suppose. Like the old Ninja Gaiden Black Challenges.

I care not for whatever option you decide to go. As long as it does not cause unnecessary clutter.

United StatesCoolHandMike7 years ago

Awesome. I think that will work vae. Then I can look more in depth for a discord as timmiluvs says.

@Picante Yes, bad tvs/monitor and such do have large millisecond lag. There is a definite drive for newer technologies to be more responsive. In the past year high refresh and response rates of tvs/monitors alone becoming more affordable is amazing. Down the road I would not worry about it too much. Right now you can buy super fast response time products with 1 ms like below. Not that you probably would even notice a 5 ms or a 10 ms response time montitor/tv.

https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-ZOWIE-inch-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B01H5KKRLO/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1527894283&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=1ms+gaming+monitor&psc=1

The lack of support for older inputs does suck though. I am not even sure how i would plug up my NES now. I would also have to check if any converters don't add lag too much themselves.
