well, fair point, but any%-J isn't necessarily saying it isn't any% too, it's just the mechanics are different enough that it's practically a different game (which the category is any% of)
I think runners wouldn't want these any%'s combined as they're different games mechanically (if people disagree I can remove the category but the people I've asked have said this is for the best), but there's always the possibility of not hiding it as a misc. category
-
I have made a category for the Japanese variation of the game, as the mechanics are significantly different (for one, enemies do half damage, as do own grenades). It is a misc category by default as runners have deemed it to be something we shouldn't encourage.
-
we have made significant changes to the timing method of both stories games. The method is a little weird I guess (combining RTA and IGT in some cases if rules are 'broken'), but the purpose is to stop abuse of pausing without adding a punishment for pager skipping on ps2, and to make runs with different setups more comparable
if anyone has any feedback, feel free to post it here
some of my ideas may be a little 'much later down the line'
-
it'd be nice if you could pin 1-2 runs to the top of your profile, similar to pinning/stickying threads on the forums. This'd stop the run you are most proud of being buried under barney's hide and seek 4:27's or whatever
-
the ability to report games would be very handy (for example, nonsensical categories, inactive mods, etc) - this can be done manually now of course, but it'd help move towards more automation, and having this as an actual feature would lead to more reports vs people saying 'screw it, I can't be bothered'
-
adding 'personal runs awaiting verification' with the info on when a run is submitted would be super handy. For example, I've been waiting 9 days for a run to be verified, and it's hit the point where I began doubting myself (until checking with an admin) whether I submitted it at all. I usually hate saying 'it should be easy' with no idea of the backend system, but I imagine it'd only be a case of adding a section to the page using a 'filter runs by logged in profile' rather than 'filter runs by games that the logged in profile is a moderator in'
-
filtering the frontpage would be amazing - a great way of achieving that would be to add a follower system. With this, you could follow series', runners, games, and filter unfollowed runs by position (ie: only show the top5 times in a game I dont follow as news - I'm sure if I get the 70th best time in vice city, the people not following the series, and even a lot who do, will not give a shit).
With this system, you could allow people to keep the default view, but give them an alert when a new time fitting their criteria is up, or allow them to hide other runs entirely, giving more reason to actually look back at the front page throughout the day, rather than casually browsing it when going to the site for another reason as I'm sure most currently do.
A further expansion of this would be to give extra attention to times beaten in games people are most interested in, ie: stickying them to the top of the frontpage feed/making them special there somehow.
Another thing that could be done is making a thread underneath the submitted run for people to post in if the run is a 'big deal' as determined by followership. This would build up the social aspect of the site a little more as people would actually view this section without specifically having to go to the forum, while also not becoming a barren feature since it wouldn't be given to the runs that are near-guaranteed to not get any posts
I can add leaderboards for these bonus missions if you want? ^^ edit: the ones that can be speedrun anyway
see it performed (on emu) from 15:00 onwards
-
'firefighter-start' the rampage,
-
pick up frighteners while on onm0 with the rampage counting down
-
pick up 'a volatile situation' at the same time as frighteners as soon as the rampage hits 0, a volatile situation will instapass
-
pick up blow up dolls
-
pick up frighteners again
powdinet has made it up to the second frighteners pickup before crashing (ps2), gael has done the same once but can't do it reliably (psp-2000? pstv?), omega reliably crashes on blow up dolls pickup
I am on my last nerve with these incompetent series mods. Soon I will have to take matter into my own hands and speak to someone who is in charge about hijacking the series. This tyranny has to stop
yeah, I truly believe it'd help seperate the good "barney's hide & seek" players from the greats
is it really worthwhile saving after big smoke? wouldnt it be better to do firefighter directly after an average big smoke?
the time saved from a good big smoke mission is lost by putting the firetruck in the garage, and having to save at a 'random' time later probably right? so why not save 'enter cj's house' after the firefighter instead so you can discern a god-tier firefighter instead of a god-tier big smoke?
(if the firefighter was really good in this run, I can't tell, I never really ran 100%)
I find it an insult that a mod is yet to respond to my pretty important request. I thought this was one of the few games that was well moderated, but I guess I was wrong
ah, I screwed up that top left jump every time I tried it, so I thought it wasn't possible actually. Your top left route would be even faster if jumping over the crate on the second jump too, causing the faster climb animation
tested some stuff today, I havent timed any of it
I dont think this one is news to people, but you can walk to the guys then crouch rather than crouching the whole way- dropping down there and jumping across saves spending time doing 2 climbs.
- jump over boxes and (I think) you'll guarantee the fast climb animation. There are...three? spots you can do this in.
AHITH magic jump. harder with frame limiter on (this video was with it off) but possible. Runnerhaworth says he thinks he found a semi-consistent spot for it so I hope he'll chime in with that
I kinda disagree - classic isn't a percentage simply put, any% (classic ruleset) at least acknowledges that, even if it's no more 'accessible' to new watchers in terms of comprehensibility
I don't think it makes a large difference in reality, but I'd still be very on-board with making the change.
Also, dropping Ending C from the official 'classic%' rules would be good too I think - you could even have it as a variable listed on the leaderboard within classic%, similar to how 'segments' is a variable within the HL leaderboards
at a guess, the dupe is because the game doesn't have data on what skin id these people are, so they got slapped with skinid 0, which is probably Vic's (it's tommy's in VC, CJ's in SA iirc, etc)
that'd also explain the LCS 'toni dupe' I had - sal's skinid data got lost, so he got given skinid 0, and the mission failed because the game lost track of him and assumed he died, but couldn't despawn him after mission fail obviously since they'd lost track of him
tested a bunch of missions, but, the main potentially useful ones:
munitions dump: pass on failing the mission (drowning in the water nearby) cash clash: passes during the cutscene when taking 2nd mission crazy 69: dupes the forellis, unfortunately there's not an instant pass trick because failing the mission 'kills' them but not with the katana as requested
similar to the cheat variant I posted here/in IRC before, you can warp to save icons with this method. Unfortunately, you can't enter cars, shoot or take missions as far as I know (maybe there's a method, didn't check yet)
I gathered all of the glitch videos already posted and defined each of them with a basic name, most of the names are pretty obvious but it'll help us avoid calling 4 different things 'asset glitch' :D https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gsrvVXlP8riXbDF7PtQD23EZSZOkoFR147AOsD4IqSw/
if anyone has any suggestions for changes to the document then post here, I don't want to make it public to edit though in case it gets posted around
