A couple of things I want to address about this run. I attempted to add 14 seconds to the overall time; 7 in the beginning for starting the timer late and 7 seconds at the end for stopping the timer early. Sadly at the time of verification speedrun.com would not allow me to make this edit. The other issue I have with this is that it is in 2 parts. I would prefer to see runs in one segment. In the videos however you see the overlap so that is why I chose to overlook it.

At the end of the day I chose to accept this run as it is. The things mentioned above doesn't change the overall landscape of speedrunning this game. This run reminds me of playing with friends when I was younger; an honest, fun filled playthrough. My hope is with accepting this run the runners will be compelled to create another, more optimized run.

Greetings! I would like to become a moderator for the game "Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows". I posted a run about 3 weeks ago that has not been verified. The current moderator has not been active for 1 year and has not been active on his YouTube channel for 3 months. Thank you for your consideration on this!

I've done some research and found you can beat this game in a couple ways. It involves using the level skip code which I'll link in below. Before starting the game if you hold the L Button and all 4 C Buttons you'll hear a noise. Once you do that after you select your character and start your game, you can select any level you want.

What this does is create two new ways to complete this game. The first way is to select the level Luna Tech and beat the game. After beating Luna Tech the game gives you the final cut-scene and rolls out the credits. To me this would be the fastest way to beat the game however its not very fun. That run would last only 1 minute or less.

The second way to complete this game is to destroy all scum labs. It is possible to play through all the levels that have these labs and have the game place you on Luna Tech to beat the game. To me this would be more enjoyable for players and fans of the game. It would cut the playtime down to under 30 minutes which could attract more players.

I prefer the second over the first. Why? Because it gives a sense of completion. In the first way I've shared it doesn't seem like your playing through the game. With the second you at have to destroy all the labs, which is what the game whats you to do. Your doing what the game whats without playing all the levels but not reducing the game to just one level. This creates a fun run without having it last nearly 2 hours.

I hope you all enjoyed my little rant. This game is fun to play but I know there is a faster way to beat it. It will come down to what you find to be the best way to do so. Thank you for your time!

What I'm curious about is why level skipping is not used. There is a way to select your first level as well as warping to certain levels from others.

100% is fine the way it is. If there is a way to shorten up the game through the use of these tactics I would hope you consider adding an additional category. Thank you for your time!

I like the Idea. Sadly it poses a lot of questions that I don't have the answers to at this time. Any further input you have in the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Easiest thing to do is to record what difficulty you set for your run. As long as you show it before you start it won't effect your time.

Done and Done! A general co-op category works for 2-4 players. I look forward to seeing your runs!

So first let me clarify the differences I've seen in the versions. For now let us separate the versions into two categories: PS2 in one with the XBOX and GCN version in another. Now here is what the XBOX and GCN have that the PS2 version does not: Storing items, Selling items in the shop, and three items which are Mikey's Decoy, Hand of Death, and Health Vampire.

Those differences give a huge advantage to the XBOX and GCN. Storing and selling items gives you flexibility in a run to gain gold and to handle tough levels. Mikey's Decoy is an item that basically tells the game wherever Mikey is, that's where the grunts go. That item made my last run. Not having these things in the PS2 just makes speed running this version harder, pure and simple.

To answer your question when it comes to categorizing I think the leader-boards are fine as they are. No version should be excluded from a category. We all see different versions on the same leader-board for other games, Dark legacy should be the same way. What I'm more interested in seeing is how the differences change the way the game is played. Sure the PS2 version will more than likely be slower than the XBOX and GCN but by how much? Also because of the lack of runs in other categories there is no telling how close or far away each version will be for Any% or 100%.

In a perfect world, yes each version should have its own separate category. There should also be a sub category for what difficulty you play on because if you play on Hard the grunts move faster and spawn quicker than if you were to play on easy or normal. The cold reality is A) I'm not a moderator so I can't make all those changes and B) Even if I could, would I really want to? Right now there are only a couple people who have submitted runs of this game. There is simply not the popularity for it. Why make all these different layers for people to submit runs when there are only two people submitting runs?

First and foremost I want to thank the mods for creating an Any% category. Unfortunately I do not completely agree with your rules for any%. I agree that secret characters shouldn't be used. A player should start with a new name. However I don't understand why cheat names aren't allowed. There is a whole area that hasn't been explored yet with cheat names. Some can do a lot of good when it comes to getting a better time. Some might even change the way people speed run this game. Please understand I do not mean to offend. This is your site and with that you have the right to make the rules as you see fit. I'm just looking to understand. If someone could explain this to me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again for creating an Any% category. Whatever transpires from this know I intend to have a run for that soon.

I'm curious why there isn't an Any% category for this game? I know it can be done; based on all the information that's out there, but why isn't it a legit category for this site?
