The biggest issue I have when I speedrun is trying too hard to be the best despite being new to the game. I constantly compare myself to others, or get discouraged messing up. And as the second poster pointed out, I try doing WR strats despite there being no reason to be doing it.

Gotta break these habits.

I'm interested in Grandia II speedruns. I don't see myself doing a lot of them because of how long it is, but I do wanna do one.

I just now read through the list in the first page of games marked in the initial clean.

It's a little surreal to see games I submitted and turned into a board recently on there. :O

Lol check out this bad boy and its other game:

http://www.speedrun.com/NES_Remix_2

Since the whole game is ILs, we had to just do categories for the largest stage count and work from there haha so this thread hit home.

I agree. I'll bring it up to xTorcox and Tricourage. If I don't get a response I'll add it myself. :)

I like the idea, but I don't think doing 100% for people's first ever blind run is a good idea. If I remember right, those pieces were hidden pretty well for Megaman X's armor. I think any% would be better for blind run categories.

Been thinking about this a lot. The general consensus I see on majority of things is that video is required. And if you can't produce one, then tough-- you cannot submit a time to the leaderboard. But what about those games that are extremely hard to capture? Like Gameboy games, 3DS games, DS games, PSP games, etc.

I understand that most boards just say to pirate games for the Gameboy as well as the Nintendo DS. PSP games were extremely hard until the PSTV came and now speedrunning/capture is a lot easier to do. But the 3DS does not have such an alternative which is why we don't see many, if any, 3DS speedruns.

I make this thread because of the recent Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson release for the 3DS. I really want to speedrun it, and possibly post my time on here for a nice list of my speedrun times. But to get a capture device, it costs more than the console itself-- and the one guy who does it says he's not doing it anymore. So I thought I'd make a thread asking what everyone's opinion on games that are really hard to capture footage for. I think Mobile/iPhone games might be a similar situation.

I'm thinking of getting a tripod and trying to play the game in the dark to possibly get some kind of footage but that's money I'll have to save up for. What do you guys think?

^ I could understand it just fine, but if you need the extra help, he asked if we could follow Game Series because there's a limit to the number of games you can follow.

He suggested since Twitch and YouTube allow a lot more than 15, that a solution if we can only have so many would be to allow series to be followed.

That's what I got from the post though.

The case someone made for Ultimate being just a variable is that NES Remix 1 and 2 are their own games, while NES Remix Pack is it's own standalone release that's just the two games put together as one huge game with a bonus minigame. While Ultimate is also that, with a few of the games taken out. So that's four games in the series, when it's really just two games.

But for all of them their ILs are identical. If Ultimate is its own game on Speedrun.com, would I need to make one for NES Remix Pack as well? And how would moderation work? As if you get WR in one of the games, you could potentially submit that one time for 3 of the titles and no one would know if you were faking as you'd submit video in-game, rather than the packaging.

I moderate the NES Remix Series: http://www.speedrun.com/nes_remix

And created/manage the NES Remix 1 and 2 boards. I originally made one for Ultimate way back when I started, but realized that the missions in that game are identical in every way to 1 and 2 as its a collection/port of the games. So rather than make it a separate game, I added a variable in the NES Remix 1 and 2 board so that those who did those missions, just on the 3DS, could show they did and have their times in one spot. So afterward, I had deleted the game.

A little bit ago however, someone remade Ultimate NES Remix and did so poorly. I'm not sure what the main categories are, or even mean. And the ILs are not ILs. He made it so that you add up all the times of every IL and post it there. Additionally, it's creating confusion as I was contacted by someone who only owned Ultimate and he assumed the game was very different because of the games having separate boards, and was requesting ILs in the Forum of Ultimate (I've since contacted him on Twitch and now he submitted times on NES Remix 2).

I left Ultimate NES Remix alone despite it's messy layout/rules since it didn't do any harm, but when I had someone confused because it was around I thought about deleting the game. But I thought I'd make a thread asking what people think or if it's a good idea. It seems weird removing a game since it IS a separate game technically. But with the other two boards having all of its content, the rules a mess, ILs not being ILs, causing confusion, and categories that don't make sense, I'm torn.

Sorry for jumbled mess of a post, just kinda typed as I was thinking.

Hey thanks a ton for the icons! :) /

I'll definitely use these in my Timer to add some nice aesthetic to the timer :D

North Carolina, USABlueInfinity229 years ago

Aren't the challenges the exact same as in the NES Remix 1 and 2 games? There's an option in those boards to indicate if you're using the 3DS version or not.

EDIT: If they're not, let me know and I'll get the game and fix this board. I left it alone because it seemed like it had no purpose with everyone reporting the 3DS game is identical in every way with the challenges.

EDIT 2 (8/31): If it wasn't clear, I only made the NES Remix 1 and 2 boards, I had nothing to do with this one.

Not sure if you're still active or not, but I added it recently.

It's really just that because this game is on a handheld where capture is extremely difficult, it promotes piracy just to submit times, as well as using inferior control schemes.

Because of those two, times that would be on the boards will not reflect actual obtainable times from each party. Which I feel is a more than fair point. Especially when there's an in-game timer that can be used to verify a time. (Edit: Runs aren't even being verified by a mod for legitimacy, it seems.)

Darko, another Puzzle League series mod, has no videos for any of their times other than one exception for a single category on Puzzle League. So your response was actually unexpected XD It'd either mean that at one point video was not a requirement and that it was changed later, or that they used moderator privileges to get around it.

It's not as big of a deal as I think I'm making it out to be, just that I've never used an emulator before as I don't like piracy, and using a Webcam on my Gameboy Color doesn't produce anywhere near a clear image.

I'm trying to have a setup for my 3DS where I clip and HD webcam on a amazon box, but playing while trying to see the screen for that is awkward LOL

Thanks for the thorough response though.

Pokemon Puzzle League doesn't require video, and that game is on a home console where it's much easier to get video. (EDIT: Looks like Tetris Attack doesn't require video either)

This game's a handheld title on Color and Nintendo 3DS. We even have the option of Nintendo 3DS as an option despite that game's capture cards being $200+.

So if we get a nice time on our 3DS, we're not able to submit it?

EDIT: To clarify why I made this thread, it's because I was doing some runs while watching my sisters (I babysit in the morning) and wanted to submit a time I got, but it would not let me submit any times if I didn't include a video link.

North Carolina, USABlueInfinity229 years ago

Recording a screen with a camera isn't bad if they set it up right. There's still big time streamers who use a camera on their TV. I use a cpature card for my home consoles, but use a HD Webcam on my 3DS top screen when streaming Pokemon Battles. Just make sure your setup works for it so it still looks quality. I would use a small Amazon Prime box to hold my clip-on HD Webcam while having my 3DS at a 90 degree angle on a book. LOL

Just be smart about it.

A Bulk Option would have been great when I was doing NES Remix Leaderboards. But I just spent a full day adding each one lol

North Carolina, USABlueInfinity229 years ago

Wanted to make a Thread for this game for General Discussions, Tips, Strategies, and calling for evidence for times.

If anyone wants proof for a user that doesn't have any video evidence of screenshots up (like me) just post here and I'll reach out to them.

Similarly, if anyone wants evidence for my times let me know. I babysit my sisters during the day so I often don't feel like uploading proof. But if anyone wants videos or screenshots I can provide those for every one of my times no problem.

Why isn't there a category for Virus Buster? The mode has so much possibility for interesting and exciting runs. You can move garbage, you can move pills through viruses, you get multiple pills at once, and can even catch garbage on top of them.

Seems odd to exclude that mode from the boards, in my opinion.
