will there ever be another tourney? Probably. No idea when though.

Generally, the official emulators aren't that great for speedrunning. Steam Game room is particularly notorious for lots of input lag, along with the audio being off. Buying the game on Steam gives you access to the roms that you can use in retroarch or fusion, and for most of preferred over using Steam.

Yes, also as there are many terrible mobile emulators, it's worth showing the menu and core as well.

Do you have a video of the stage up to that point? that one happens because you skipped a pathswapper. So generally this in itself wouldn't be classed as a glitch as it falls under abusing the pathswapping layers.

European (PAL) version runs slower as standard at 50 fps not 60 fps, so should end up slower overall. If you try (in Fusion) forcing the PAL version to 60fps it will not be playable and you get stuck on a Konami logo (same for if you try forcing the NTSC version to PAL). So the ROM you were using had been modified in some fashion - either a PAL rom that had been modified to get past the Konami screen to run at 60fps, or another rom that has things sped up.

Irrespective of whether it was a legitimate mistake, running a modified rom automatically disqualifies the run from the board.

@Surri again, this is to deal with specific favourtism to specific individual runners, and to ban the possibility for someone paying a mod for their run to be verified first. It is not as a generalisation to enforce mods to verify runs in a specific order, but more that Mods should not use their friendship with the runner nor accept payment/favours in exchange for verifying their run first.

The 30s IL vs a 2hr full run does certainly exist within sr.c, maybe not in the game in question, but certainly happens.

@ATunaOnWhite @cozypocket You're both taking the wording of the rules here way too literally. (Lack of) Impartiality here would be applying one sets of rules to RunnerA, and not applying them to RunnerB. e.g. RunnerA gets a run rejected for lack of game audio, but RunnerB does not because for example, the mod is friends with RunnerB (or another variety of reasons).

The preferential treatment is also in regards to single runners, e.g. Always verifying RunnerB's runs first over RunnerA.

Taking the wording literally like you have here would mean the following situation would break those rules: A mod has a 5 minute break, see's a 30s IL submitted, and decides to verify it before a 2hr run that has been in the queue for a couple of days.

Speedrun Tournaments generally rely on verified sr.c runs for seeding, so giving those runs priority is fair game as long as other runs can still be verified in a timely fashion, if they can't then the mods should seek out bringing more mods/verifiers on board to handle the increased load. With being part of the mod team for 2 tournaments being run in the past 6 months, the communities have been supportive of the tournaments and understand that their runs may take a bit longer to verify.

It's worth also pointing out that the "Runs Awaiting Verification" page is not sorted by submission date, but by the date entered by the runner of when they did the run, so there is zero emphasis from sr.c that runs should be verified in the order they are submitted, and if the date on the page was used then a runner could just stipulate they did a run earlier than they did to artificially bump it up the queue.

Yeah, the autosplitter supports separate blue sphere splits. You'll want a completely separate copy of livesplit for the secondary timer.

In the main timer you can tick the setting "Pause for Blue Sphere stages", and add 2 extra splits before Mushroom Hill 1 and Hidden Palace, and it will add the total time spent in blue spheres for those halves in one go.

For the secondary timer, you can use the game name of "Sonic 3 & Knuckles - Bonus Stages Only", and the timer will be paused outside of blue spheres, and will start upon entry and stop upon exit. https://www.speedrun.com/s3k/run/yw4e1l9z is an example of it working - for that video the S3 Half had the chaos emeralds split just before LB2, but it was changed to after, when routing was found that you could use a big ring in LB2 for the final Chaos Emerald, before moving onto the Super Emeralds.

This is correct when there are tied times. :)

If you check the guides section, there is Both Chrezm's youtube playlist and the community document (for Sonic & Tails) which has most of the stuff currently used in runs.

As for finding the glitches, some are found by accident, others are from understanding how the game reacts to certain scenarios and use that to try to create a new glitch.

Feel free to join the #sonic-3 channel on the discord. We have plenty of people willing to help out with learning the game.

You want to be able to make the first jump without hitting the wall, and then wait a little bit for the flybot to return before going on the cylinder (or sticking to the left of the cylinder). Adrian has a great tutorial on it here:

If using an emulator or the steam release, just use the autosplitter, and make sure you right click - compare against - game time.

If using console, or you don't want to use the autosplitter, make sure you are also comparing against game time like above, but right click - Edit Layout- Click the add button - Control - Manual Game Time. When you start the timer, a dialog will pop up for you to enter in the IGT.

Hi

For: https://www.speedrun.com/s3air_competition_mode Can: Minigame/Gamemode be added as game type, and Base Game set to https://www.speedrun.com/s3air/

Not sure if "Fangame" should be removed as a type, as it's not a fan game of Sonic 3 AIR, but part of Sonic 3 AIR which is a fan game of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Thanks.

Generally for arbitrary categories we will only begin to consider them after they have gained a fair amount of traction.

Feel free to track runs of this in a google doc or so though.

We are looking at possibly adding Level Leaderboards to S3 over at https://www.speedrun.com/s3 for the S3 half. But that won't likely be done for a while.

Would be undecided on MH from SK half as it's the only level that changes between S3K and SK.
