I wonder if a new category extension that allows Left and Right to be pressed at the same time (probably by using an emulator or modded controller), if we would be able to take advantage of it in an RTA speedrun and beat the current Any% record. I know it is against the rules, but I'm a little curious to see what would happen if it were legal.
- The mods aren't adding any new categories for the forseeable future
- Left+Right would barely help, and the only place where you could easily save time is 8-4 water section
- People wouldn't want to put in the effort to get seriously good any% times in a category extension
Good points. Still curious to see if any improvement would be possible by a human and implemented in a run.
When I look at this thread, I think about Kosmic's video about beating SMB in Animal Crossing. This still can be there. The only reasonable time saves are the 8-1 and 8-2 framerule. By using L+R fast acceleration, it would be much easier to save the frame rule, since the fast acceleration would save some more frames then.
