Pipe Glitch 1-1

I was casually playing Mario on RetroArch on my mac. I had just started a new game and was playing through 1-1. I was on the second pipe of the level. i walked off of the pipe and jumped as soon as i hit the ground, and was going to hit it one block (as in 16x16 pixels) short of the top, but then i landed inside the pipe as if the top block didn't exist. I didn't get a screen capture because i didnt realise that i clipped through until after i jumped off. Could this be a new speedrunning technique to save a few milliseconds? or is it just a waste of time. Anyone else?

If I understand you correctly (Mario walked through the pipe), then I'm pretty sure you'd lose time since (iirc) you'd have to press left in order to clip into the pipe.

  1. You can actually clip into or through most block "seams" in the game under the correct circumstances, including pipes.

  2. Friendly heads up - you may or may not be intending to run this game and submit times, but RetroArch is not an allowed emulator, so if you do submit a time, you can't use that emulator :)
