Hi, i know that getting a response here might be a shot in the dark, but i was looking at the Escape% run, and after preforming mha, you go to the fairy fountain and get the star to save. This would be great, however when i get the star, it doesn't ask if you would like to save. If someone could explain this to me that would be great

i believe it has to do with landing in a precise spot

It is a fairly precise trick; you have to grab the star at the same time you land on the ground, which apparently can only be done when your pitch is high enough. Thankfully it does work with a sideflip dive if you do it in the right place.
