The answer to this is because me and dha found out that the higher fps your monitor supports the faster your game will play.

The game cap is 63 FPS. While if you play on 60Hz you are capped at 59. The speed difference is 6%. We are not entirely sure still because some people with high FPS setup can't get 63 FPS in the game.

I use the Steam version and get 62/63 FPS. I have a 144 Hz monitor and i tested the game on both 60, 100 and 144 Hz and it is noticeably slower on 60 Hz. It feels slower to play and the input time seems slower as well when you need to make fast jumps.

If I recall correctly, cheese also uses a win7 machine. I tried with 70, 100 and 144Hz on win10, with and without compatibility mode and got no results.
