Here is some information on the Selfdestruct skip:

As some of you might know you can save time by self destructing after you hit the last gas station of a level because you skip the animation where you fly out of the level.

Recently I found out that you can also skip the cutscenes after each world by doing this on any X.8 level, so you save some extra time :)
