Proposal: All Races NG+ category

So I had a couple run category ideas, and this is the second of them: All Races NG+

This category would have a completely different set of rules from the other categories, as follows:

  • Time starts when the foyer (or the Sandy Bay overworld) finishes loading after selecting Continue Game.
  • All 24 races must be finished, but they can be done in any order.
  • If you don't do The Grand Finale last, the credits are counted in time.
  • Time finishes when you cross the finish line to end the last race.

I've done a couple attempts at it myself, and my PB is 1:12:40.76, which you can watch here.

Note: In the video, the Game Time timer has a bug that I've since fixed, where for the frame of a split, the timer switches to what it showed at the beginning of the race. At the end, it should read "1:03:02.39".

As an aside, I do not think "10 speed bonuses" is the way to go for this run.

Maybe it would be more consistent to have the timer start upon entering/loading into the first track (whichever that may be)

this sounds like a solid idea, i'd vote for it one question though, if i did an any% run and wanted to do NG+, am i allowed to first get max powerups or do i have to roll with the 1 boost i have?

You can use an existing save and you can get it as beefed up as you want before starting. You'll note that my sample attempt has +10 speed.

@ acE. Btw I never responded to your comment, but I was originally going with the foyers to be more consistent with the start conditions of the existing categories (which start when you're about to exit the menus).

Having said that, I've done some thinking and I actually like your idea better. Starting the timer when the first race loads would make restarting a dead run easier as you don't have to choose between

  • going all the way back to the menu to reload a save (though that may still be easier in some cases)
  • entering a race, exiting to start the timer, then re-entering the race
  • losing time driving from the foyer entrance to the race, if you're coming from another world

This adjustment to the rules would take 2.90 seconds off my first run, making its adjusted time 1:12:37.86. It wouldn't affect the sum of race times.

If there's no disagreement, I'm going to add the category on Sunday.
