I've verified my account via email, yet one of my friends isn't able to add me as a moderator because apparently I'm not verified, does it take a specific amount of time to get verified? Or is something else happening?

Verifying your account via your email is simply registering it. You need to enable 2FA, which will cause you to be emailed a PIN and have to put that PIN in in order to log in. Can find this under Settings, the slider checkbox "Require e-mail authentication when logging in".

I would also recommend adding a few social media contacts to your profile as well, in order to be able to be contacted off-site should you go inactive.
