Any% Tantarian Night Notes, charts and saves (Most optimised and up to date Tantarian route)

Update 7th May 2021: Route has been updated. Biggest inclusion is the possibility to have Heat for Taharka. No nobles back ups have also been factored in to the route. All resources have been updated below, including a full set of saves.

I recommend watching this run from the FF Speedrun Relay IV: Interlude to see a good marathon showing of the route. This route is on the right (note: with the newest revision this is slightly outdated. Most things have remained the same).:

Auto Splitter and Load Remover for PC setup

## 1. Edit Splits

Open LiveSplit and go to "Edit Splits". If you don't have splits for FF9, you can download them [here](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fhelwanger/ff9-auto-splitter/master/BaseSplits.lss).

## 2. Activate the auto splitter

On the "Splits Editor", make sure that the game is set to exactly "Final Fantasy IX". After that, click "Activate".

## 3. Auto splitter settings

Press the "Settings" button next to the "Activate" button and a new "Component Settings" window should appear. Here you can select if you want to auto start the timer, auto split and which splits you want. Just make sure that if you deselect some split, you also remove it from your splits on the previous window (for example, if you don't kill Tantarian in your route, you should remove the "Tantarian" split). The auto-splitter will split based on the order of the splits, so you can name them whatever you want (for example, you can rename "Steiner 3" to "Bomb" and it'll work).

Please note that **the Necron split is not automated** because it works differently from the other ones. This is the only split that you should do manually.

## 4. Configure the load remover

Download the "Alternate Timing Method" component from the [LiveSplit Components page](http://livesplit.org/components/). Extract the files into your LiveSplit Components folder (for example, "LiveSplit_1.7.6\Components").

Right click on your splits and click on "Edit Layout".

In the "Layout Editor", click on "+", "Information", "Alternate Timing Method".

If you wish, double click the "Alternate Timing Method" in the list to open its settings and change its text.

To change the current comparison to use Game Time (Time Without Loads) instead of Real Time (Time With Loads), right click on your splits and select to "Compare Against", "Game Time".

This way, the "Time Without Loads" will be used on your splits but you'll have an additional timer using the "Alternate Timing Method" component to show the "Time With Loads".

Beginner-friendly Tantarian fight guide

I spent a little while making a guide on how to execute the Tantarian fight, since there are a lot of new PC/HD runners and Tant is usually recommended for that version. I do not personally run PC/HD, but I do run a Tant route so I figured I would throw up a quick guide for those not familiar with the fight.

This guide primarily focuses on Disc 2 Tantarian. A small section has been added for those interested in routing/running Disc 3 Tantarian, and will be expanded upon later.

Duckstation setup

## 1. BIOS Settings

Make sure "Fast boot" is **disabled** and always include the ps1 logo on your submission video.

- **Async Readahead:** 8 sectors
- **Read Speedup:** 3x (6x Speed)
- **Seek Speedup:** None (Normal Speed)

Make sure emulation speed is set to 100%.

Keep those checked for verification purposes:

- Show ODS Messages
- Show Emulation Speed
- Show Display FPS
- Show Controller Input

## 5. Audio Settings

To prevent some crashes at disc 3:

- Select **Cubeb** as Backend
- Select **wasapi** as Driver
- Select **Time Stretch** as Stretch Mode
- Check **Minimal** next to Output Latency
