Possible odd quirk of early game levels

I've been thinking about this for quite a while. The first few levels of the game have always felt slower the first time I played the game after a fresh restart then when I played it normally.

I decided to count the number of frames in Kokafishin's Any% and IL WRs on Waking light from the start of the run to the point where the Wing is on the same level as the first "corner" thingy. Both videos are at 30 fps and in the first few seconds the runs are basically the same, so there shouldn't be a significant difference.

Any% - cca 55 frames IL - cca 47 frames

If the timers in these levels are going at the same rate (I don't know if they are though), it would be a difference of roughly .267 seconds (within like the first 2 seconds of the level)!

Maybe I'm just crazy though.

P.S. I eventually wanna make a theoretical best time for the Any%, 100% and Unrankedless runs, accounting for menuing and everything. I wanted to just take the IL WRs and paste them in, but if this is true, I can't do that :(

Are you thinking of the speed upgrade you get after completing Loveless? That's why your ship would be slower when you reset your save file. The only other difference would be from what device you are playing the game on

We have a best splits google doc for Any% it's in the "Community best splits" thread in the forum. If you'd like to be added as an editor let me know!

Yeah it's easy to miss if you're spamming through the story lol, it confused me until i actually read what he says after you beat loveless

The google sheet doesn't account for menuing times, though, it just takes the entire menuing time from one run. I've been thinking about calculating a best segmented time for that. I think the game itself runs on 60 fps. When I'm going through runs frame-by-frame, so many of them start at 0.016, 0.017, 0.033, etc. There are some exceptions, but it happens often enough for 60 fps to make sense. I'm guessing the dialogue can be skipped at 60 lines/second (although no one can tap that fast as far as I know). Most of the time, levels seem to load in 1.567 seconds (from when engage is pressed to when the player is able to move in the level), but it can be faster. For example, Corsair loaded in 1.500 or 1.533 seconds on my Unrankedless run. I'd still need to calculate a lot of other parts and verify these measurements, but I might try to figure this out soon. It could potentially save quite a bit of time on the community segmented best time. Finally, not sure if this changes anything, but my runs are recorded at 360p and 25 fps, but get converted to 30fps by youtube and the video processing app.

Honestly the coolest thing would be to make a best time video for all of the 3 categories. I'd like to do that (at least for the Any% run), but if anyone else is quick with their editing skills then fire away (don't forget to credit the runners tho).

I might try to do the video sometime. The only problem is that we don't have the videos for some times like UffaBizza's 30.04 on wave lair. What I could do instead is do something like take my 30.748 and speed it up by 1.025x. to get 30.03-ish
