Hey everyone! New to the community.
I thought of this new run that I’m hoping will get started, because the more I think about it the more excited I get about what runners will be able to do with it.
In short, it’s called ‘The 30 Shrine Run.’
The setup would work like this.
- The runner would plan the route out first, starting from whatever shrine they choose.
- Then they would start a new game, complete the great plateau shrines, and then go straight to the shrine they chose as their starting point.
- They destroy/consume all their gear/items, so that when they start their run, they are exactly as link is when he wakes up in the starting cave, except for the four orbs and runes gained from the great plateau shrines.
- They save and quit at their chosen starting shrine (after it’s activated, but not completed).
At this time the prep work is complete.
- When they load that save at their starting shrine, that’s when the timer starts.
- From here, they do 25 shrines in the order of their choosing, picking up whatever items they need to expediate their times in the shrines, and the time traversing in between them. -Everyone finishes their run at the same shrine, the one in Hyrule castle, and the timer stops when they activate the cinematic to get the final orb.
3 points of note.
- The runner gets to choose the time of day that the run starts, and they choose by saving at the time they want it to be when they load (just thinking of the time sensitive shrines)
- The four orbs collected from the great plateau can be used for an upgrade if the runner so chooses, so long as an upgrade statue is somewhere along the chosen route.
- Amiibo rune is turned off.
When thinking long term with this run, I wonder, what will the runs look like a year from now, when everyone has pretty much discovered the few runs that beat out the hundreds of others? People will be choosing to do the Necluda-Dueling Peaks route, The Satori-Korok, or the Akkala-Lanayu Route, and optimizing the hell out of them. Just think, an AGDQ, four runners with very different runs, but their PB’s are all very similar. It wouldn’t just be a run to see whose run is fastest, it would also be a run to see whose route is best.
And even at that point, consider that there will still be runners out there on the search for an entirely new run that hasn’t even been considered yet. Some new strat that changes the state of the game completely.
I went with 30 shrines, because I think the length of the run is a good length. Remember, Only 26 (25 chosen) shrines need to be completed for a run, if a runner manages to traverse to and complete a shrine every 4 and a half minutes, then they will complete it in under two hours. I think that these runs, with the amount of personalization that can be put into them will be good for bringing viewers into a stream, and at under two hours, it makes for a good movie on youtube as well.
I’m not a runner myself, just a fan, so I hope you guys will take this idea and run with it. Ultimately you guys would choose the conditions obviously. I would just love to see these runs. So many variations, but also so many similarities and cross-strats!
I’ll finish with a few ideas I had for some tweaks of the general layout.
- Maybe 20 chosen shrines would be better, the 25 shrine run.
- Maybe beating the game after the final shrine would be preferable for that sense of true completion.
- Maybe use the completion of a chosen divine beast for the finish point instead of the shrine in Ganon’s castle. This would really open up route possibilities. Just call it the 30 orb run, implying that the final orb is the champion’s gift after defeating whatever divine beast. Timer would stop at the beginning of the cinematic where the guardian bestows the gift.
Take care, guys. I hope you’re inspired to take it on. Thanks.
