- I do think any runs with the emulation advantage should be removed
- If I read it right illegitimate runs would run faster than legitimate runs. The proof could simply be comparing an illegitimate run to a legitimate run and showing the speed difference.
- I'm willing to go through and do all 59 runs if you guys would like but that's up to you. My main concern just lies within the top 10 or 20 or so however
- I agree with listing banned and approved emulators
- I'd be willing to become a verifier and check each run since I'm pretty active on this site but frame by frame timing should be reserved for top level times (top 10 probably)
the goal for the bounty doesn't have to affect the category rules. Those can be changed or not depending on what the person hosting the bounty does. A cash prize shouldn't affect a category but rather only incite interest. While I think the 72 hour limit should go down and take sleep breaks into account if it doesn't change it's not a valid reason to not allow sleep breaks on the category itself.
so the timer not reflecting how long it took should be a reason to sacrifice the health of the runners? Like I mentioned before 2 8 hour sleep breaks should be perfect for something like this similar to BotW hundo. It's very possible for a player to beat it with those 2 sleep breaks without risking anything health wise. It's still a tough challenge even with sleep breaks. No one who ran BotW hundo before the rule change thought "sleep breaks make it too easy." It's still multiple days you have to spend playing mario and almost nothing else. Also 40 hours is already really bad for a person but "only 10-15 hours longer" is absolutely ridiculous. going from a 602 to 1862 is already crazy but on top of that just expecting that someone will be able to just add another 10-15 hours onto that is absurd.
Calling BotW runners "pussies" for having that rule is really fucking stupid. No reasonable person would run that consistently without sleep breaks because of how bad it is for a person's health. If you want people to run this which is way more obscure than BotW 100% then you need the same sleep rules or else no one is going to risk their health in that way. I'm honestly not sure why you felt the need to mention sleeping was allowed as long as the timer kept running. Any leaderboard does allow breaks as long as the timer keeps running, the point of sleep breaks is to allow the runners to stay healthy without punishing them timewise and discouraging them.
dm me on discord (conman#0933) and I'll explain there.
Not allowing the timer to pause seems really strange for something as long as this. I definitely think doing something like BotW where there are 2 8 hour sleep breaks allowed would make more sense. Allowing infinite breaks can be abused obviously but not allowing breaks at all just incentives risking someone's health because if they need to sleep they have to leave the timer running.
there's already a leaderboard here https://www.speedrun.com/sm64ique
if we go based purely off the definition of a glitch then corner clipping, wall zipping, wall hopping, lag clipping, window skip, /e dance2 clips, checkpoint clipping and zen clipping are all glitches. I'm for banning all of these although since checkpoint clips are random I wouldn't punish someone who happens to clip oob due to luck as long as they don't take advantage of it. everything else from my knowledge is caused by intended mechanics therefore making them exploits. (on the fence about the water jump because that's random and a mess and idk how that works)
this thread was done 2 years ago. Don't necro it unless you have something meaningful to add aside from 1 sentence that comes down to common sense
this game doesn't have a 100% and therefore doesn't need a 100% category.
people can add their runs if they want. if they don't other people shouldn't add it without their permission. adding others runs just isn't a good idea.
I've started learning this game but it lags really bad on my computer and I find that it runs a lot better on my switch through retroarch. Is this allowed? It has different cores for different well known emulators but I thought I might as well ask here to be safe.
@everyone can ya'll shut up and just not post if it's not about the original source material so the thread doesn't turn into people attacking each other? thanks!
seriously this thread didn't need to be revived, if he didn't want to ask the question 10 days ago what makes you think going back and asking him what his question was would make him change his mind, it clearly wasn't important.
this thread has overstayed it's welcome and needs to be locked. It's turned into a thread where people are attacking each other instead of debating about the new category it was supposed to be about. We've all stated why we think it should and shouldn't be added, and that's all the thread should do, end of discussion.
Look man I never called you a child. I haven't seen anyone on this thread attack you or call you a child. All anyone did on these forums is present their thoughts until you came in with your "I'm right if you disagree your mean and bullying me" mentality. No one here has been instigating a fight except you. None of us like drama except you. If you want us to stop fighting on the forums then how about you stop trying to instigate fights and just listen to what the other side has to say and calmly debate instead of arguing.
That being said the reason I'm not against 10x cannonless staying up while not adding 10x any other star is because while yes I'll admit that setups have made it less of a fun category if you want to compete with top times or just compete with others in general (which is what leaderboards are for) then you still need to go for og because doing a setup 10 times will lose a lot of time over the course of the run.
That being said no matter how you do owless you can get consistent at it. The fun thing about 10x cannonless (at least if you do og) is that there is no way to consistently get it because it's precise beyond human consistency. Owless well never be that way so if you just practice it enough then you can nail it 10 times in a row pretty much everytime, which is what I mean when I say it's more or less just a practice category.
ok this is just childish. @lostontheinternet clearly has no interest in learning what the opposing side has to say and just wants to argue so honestly not getting in an argument with him is probably the best option. Since I'm already posting I might as well put my opinion out there and I agree with Dumpdome. Not everything needs to be a category. Category extensions are for unique runs of a game that wouldn't make sense on the normal boards, NOT random things anyone can do just to practice. Categories are not and have never been to practice. Some categories can help reinforce muscle memory for other categories but that's only a side effect. Making a category on the basis of it being good for practice is how you end up with 100 categories.
As someone who's been looking into this game but been discouraged by the load differences I would say yes. The only issue is translating the boards since there are already a good amount of runs, however if help is needed with that I would be interested in helping.
From my time playing the game I've never noticed losing a frame from dropping an item. I'm honestly not sure if you can lose a frame in this game because the character moves in 3 frame movement cycles.
This sounds like a very cool idea honestly. I'd be down to run it if someone else routes it.
You can put the photo wherever as long as we can see it.
you can't do first moon skip on 1.1 though
