Can i speedrun reliably using an LED/HDTV?

So I am considering to start speedrunning this game on N64 after playing on an emulator and I'm wondering if going for a LED tv is fine? I know that it is advised to use CRT and that LED has some input delay but will it affect my runs too much or is it a minimal amount? Any help is appreciated!!

i think you only have input delay but this is the only thing changed when not playing on crt atleast if LED is like a HD tv

There are only 2 negatives about LED TVs: input delay and maybe slightly decreased graphics quality.

From my experience, N64 games look a bit cleaner on CRT TVs. As long as that does not distract you, it has no impact on the runs.

Input delay may vary from TV to TV, as it depends on how quickly your TV converts the analog input signal into a digital output signal and how fast it then displays said signal. Some TVs have a "gaming mode" that can lower the input delay but might also lead to slightly worse graphics. You should definatly look up if your TV has this function. maybe some PC monitors can work with a low input delay as well? Don't know how compatible that is.

Hello, I've been searching but I can't find the input delay of my pc monitor. It's a Benq GL2450, I've only found the input delay of a 1 year newer model. Is there any way I can test it?

And I might be able to get a CRT somewhere in a relative's house but I have nowhere to put it in my current setup.

Well the benq website tells me it has a response time of 5ms.

I'd personally suggest you try out the options you already have before modifying your setup. If you have the option to choose between a tv and a pc monitor maybe try out which one works best for you.

It sounds like you are just starting off, so I'd say just go with what you already have. If over time you get to a point where you can feel that the input delay is hurting your gameplay significantly that is the moment you can think about getting a CRT (or a faster digital monitor).

Also just in case you do not already have an N64: There is no shame in starting to speedrun on emulator. plenty of good runners started on EMU and only switched to N64 later.

Thank you for the response! I think ill follow your advice and start with what I have. Where I live I can probably find an n64 for like 20 bucks so ill start with that but I think ill just use my monitor or tv. Thanks again for the help!
