Hi. I'm JackJuggler and this is my first ever Speedrun Guide. I am not the greatest writer but I thought I would try to make this guide anyways. If you want to contact me about this guide please DM me or Email me at jackthejuggler2@gmail.com.

I have been playing NHL Slapshot for about 6 years now. I have owned the game since It was relatively new but never played It because I didn't like the stick and I didn't know you could play with just a remote.

Over the past few months I have started Speedrunning the game and I have become the top player for Minigames(Gamemodes on src) and Goals(misc on src).

I have developed several strategies to go faster as well as figuring out some basic game knowledge by playing lots and have decided to share that knowledge with you.

In this guide if controls are mentioned I will be using/describing Wii remote only controls. If you are using other controls(e.g Stick) you will have to adapt what I say.

                                                                           1a.FAQ

Q. What is NHL Slapshot Wii? A. NHL Slapshot is EA Sports' first ice hockey video game on the Wii, released in 2010. It was the first game in the NHL series since NHL 2005 to receive an E rating, mainly because the game does not include fighting. Q. Do I need a Stick/Nunchuck to play? A. No. You can play with just the Remote. Q. How many Players can play? A. 4 Players can play in most gamemodes. Q. Is Speedrunning fun for this game? A. It depends on the catagory. Minigames/goals(exept 2vs2) are pretty fun to speedrun whereas win a game and Stanley Cup Finals are pretty boring.

                                                                        2.Minigames

                                                                       2a.Timing

There are 4 minigames. 3 of them have the same timing method but one of them is timed the same way as a game(2vs2). Here are the Timing methods:

Free for All: Time begins the frame "GO!" disappears and ends the frame "(Your Player) Wins".

Classic Shootout: Time begins the frame "GO!" disappears and ends the frame "(Your Player) Wins".

2vs2: Time begins the Frame the timer counts down from 20:00 to 19:59 and ends the frame the bench players celebrate the Win.

Shooter vs Goalie: Time begins the frame "GO!" disappears and ends the frame "(Your Player) Wins"

                                                                      2b.Rules

This is just copied(and slightly changed/cut) from the rules on the main pages.

MAIN RULES. No cheating Runs must be played on default settings (Minigames don't have settings beside 2v2 so make sure 2v2 is set to default and is shown when doing the run) All intended controls are allowed. Emulators are allowed. You can record with a phone if it is clear and not shaky. Tip: I recommend turning off music in settings at the start menu because if your recording with audio they have music that play during the menu and it is copyrighted. Just the heads up if your posting your run on YouTube. MINIGAME RULES Free for All: No cheating. Make sure to show the whole run. Classic shootout: No cheating. Make sure to show the whole run. 2vs2: Set settings to default by clicking the reset settings button. No cheating/hacking. Shooter vs Goalie: Must get more points then goalie and win the game. No cheating or hacks.

                                                              2c.FREE FOR ALL

We have finally made it to an actual minigame! So for this game there are 2 things that matter when It comes to speedruns. One is the first puck drop distance from the player and the other is the "Framerule" system on the other 2 pucks. Lets start with the drop distance. The closer the better(obviously). The puck will drop before you start the game and you need to speed boost towards it as fast as possible. If your puck drop is too far away to get a decent time, instead of restarting the minigame you have to go back to the main menu and re-select the minigame. This is because of what I will nickname "Load State". This means the minigame once loaded will always have the same position/patterns every time you restart the minigame. In this minigame only the first puck is controlled by load state and the other pucks are random. This can be both a blessing and a curse. On the Plus RNG is the same so you can get really used to It by restarting over and over. On the downside you have to go back to the main menu If you get bad RNG. In my record: https://www.speedrun.com/nhl_slapshot_wii/run/zp3nk8vm I get a really close drop and I knew it was coming. I also knew where the other 2 pucks would spawn. This record is a great example of "Framerules". On the second puck I have to wait for It to spawn but on the third puck I barely got there in time. Instead of losing time in 21 frame increments(like in mario 1) you lose every frame after you could have shot the puck but didn't. You need to know where the pucks are going to spawn to have a chance for a good time. If you get good placements try to practice over and over and If you get bad ones go back to the main menu. Sorry If this is confusing.

                                                               2d.Classic Shootout

This one should be much simpler. Just go to the blueline and cross it partway and shoot. If you don't cross the blueline you will dump the puck into the back. You may have to try a few times to score from the blueline. I think the trigger for shot on goal instead of dump is the same as an offside so try to go about that far. In my WR: I just hold up, boost and swing the remote down as I cross the blueline. After the first shot shake the remote and spam A.

                                                                      2e.2vs2

Easy to learn but hard to Master. Theoretical best strat: Score 1 goal. Circle arena with no out of bounds puck cutscenes. Do this all 3 periods. Oh yeah during period breaks quickly press: A,B,A. You will be put back into the game in only a few frames.

                                                           2f.Shooter vs Goalie

(If you want to take full advantage of my advice please switch to the remote only controls). Controls: There are 3 ways to shoot in this minigame. Normal, Slapshot, and Deke. Normal is just swinging(fastest) slapshot is pressing 2 and swinging(slowest) and deking allows you to control where the stick is(what side/area). Deking will allow you to shoot on the other side of the net whereas normal only lets you shoot at one side. Also these shots are affected by the way you swing. Also scoring is slower(I am pretty sure of this anyways).

Load State is a big key in this one but I don't know whether It is random or is tied to the goalie.

Basically the goalie is vulnerable to certain shots on certain turns. I don't know much about how this works but here are 2 examples and some basic strats for speedrunning: Example 1: I was playing as Crosby(my usual) against Halak and I found a pattern. If you held the wii remote a certain way you could beat him 9-1 by doing this: shoot(blocked),deke(score),shoot(score) ect. The optimal speedrun was shoot(blocked),deke(score),shoot(score), deke(score) and shoot for the rest. You may take a few tries to win on some of the optimal strats. Example 2: My WR: I got Rask as goalie and all I had to do was hold the remote in a certain way and do a fast normal shot every time as soon as I got the puck. Basic Speedrun Tips: Use Wii Remote. Try different shots. Abuse Load State to find patterns. Try to score the minimum possible to win. Experiment with different remote positions.

I will try to find more about this in the future.

                                                               3.Changelog/Ending
