So I entirely watched the video and I have a few things to say. For one I personally have no doubts that Jaypin did not have any malicious intents (in the videos). In general other than a few things he said I view him in a much more positive light.

His excuse for deleting comments was really weak though and he mentions the fact that he only submitted the runs in 2019 within like one sentence. He also didn't really give a reason for why he did that unless I missed it. I really don't doubt that he does want to come back and is sorry for what he did.

That being said I still think cheaters should be punished and that these things should have no effect on the outcome. Jaypin stole 4 runs plain and simple and he did lie and hide things in his first video. He should be punished with a ban. I also don't understand why he can't make the videos and likes/dislikes public but whatever.

"Another update related to this incident. It has just come to the sonic communities knowledge that there has been a jaypin copycat. Somebody has JUST been uploading/stealing runs, (literally yesterday and the day of today) of other peoples runs and submitted them to the leaderboards. We found at least 2 stolen runs. But as you can see, we can already see the precedent that this jaypin situation is setting. People know that there is no penalty if you cheat and they know they will get unbanned. It has already started."

@Zaxon96 Which is funny because that means they think being unbanned from SRC means they are unbanned from the Sonic series leaderboards.

One thing I didn't know about that somebody mentioned to me in a discord DM was that there was a forum on SRC about the my situation.

Sorry, but that's yet another lie. Some people messaged him here with the thread, he has been @'d here, and some people mentioned it in youtube comments. You know, the ones he deleted. Doing "self-redemption" runs isn't gonna cut it, especially when the follow-up video is also hidden from the public.

@SRC Can you please actually enlighten us as to why you unbanned a known plagiarist when you have all the evidence in the world that you needed to ban and keep him banned?

Fun fact: He deleted Merl_'s comment where they ask him to please stop deleting his comments too.

Newsflash: you can't make amends for stealing by lying about what you did and by hiding your videos from the public.

I just got done watching the 2nd video.

I actually like jaypin and have chatted with him a few times. Being we approach speedrunning in an unorthodox manner, we have crossed paths on numerous occasions. wws very shocked and hurt to hear about all of this. i saw the side by sides. it's irrefutable.

would like to share my opinion. take it as just that.

i actually classify this as just 1 instance of cheating not 4. the reason for this is i see this as a very probable line:

jaypin decides to steal some runs. goes through the effort to do it then has 2nd thoughts. years pass and he finds old runs and submits them.

i can say from personal experience when dealing with 1000s of runs, you forget to upload, put the wrong video on submissions all sorts of mistakes. i run across old runs i forgot about all the time.

i can actually see jaypin believing they were just forgotten runs.

now that said. if the cheated runs werent on his channel, this wouldn't be an issue. if i find an older run i know its mine, as i only upload my runs.

but for now i classify it as 1 instance of cheating (not a small one though). i do think that repeat offenses of 4 in a row daisy chained is incorrect and not right.

now i do classify jaypin as a confirmed cheater.

now how to deal with it. The lack of info from src is a bit annoying but is what it is.

being jaypins unbanned on the site now with no conditions. i do see that as an issue as well.

i dont think a permaban from the entire src site is a fair punishment (my opinion), but also dont think a 3 month ban is suffient.

the first concern is mod status. would like to see jaypin relinquish mods from games with a staff and attempt to find replacement mods for games he solo mods.

i think that would be the first step.

think a permaban from the game he cheated is appropriate too.

thats what i personally would think is the right conditions for a 2nd chance.

any violation no matter how small i do think ends in permaban.

after watching the first video i really felt a permaban was the right course. after the 2nd video, accounting for his age, maturity level and passion for speedrunning. i dont think he is gonna cause issues as he knows what would happen.

heard ya say your willing to do whatever it takes. think right now ya hurt the community jaypin. all for seeing redemption stories. but would need to see ya go above and beyond to help the community to offset this stain on your rep.

also gotta say the unlisted videos are a bad look. but the blame shifting from first video to 2nd was substantially less and he did address some of his mistakes in the first video. hope to see more growth of self responsibility, but seeing the growth from vid 1 to 2 was a good amount. hopefully vid 3 will complete it.

also think it would help a lot if the videos were public. i can deal with deleted comments, but would be important to address it publicly. that whole self responsibility growth thing.

Imo it's believable that when he originally submitted the runs he forgot they were stolen. But there's no way he never remembered he stole runs in the next 1 and a half-2 years time between the runs being submitted and his ban. The rest of your points are pretty good.

o ya not gonna say he didnt know he stole runs.

but can believe he forgot which runs where his and which werent.

mistake or on purposr doesnt really matter. it happened.

if the vids werent there it wouldn't have happened.

my point was the 4 instances vs 1. i think people saying he offended 4 times sounds like. he cheated got caught. cheated again got caught. etc.

its 1 big one vs 4 small consecutive.

that was the only point i wqs really trying to make. remove the repeat offense and look at this as 1 giant offense.

"but can believe he forgot which runs where his and which werent." this is why multiple people said he should wipe his runs exept mayde those done so that its proven to be him. Also if he comes back and people just find one video which is also stolen he is really gone.

being his quality of runs and how he approaches running. he's not a competitive runner in most definitions. his goals revolve around games played. less concerned about a wipe as he barely impacts any leaderboards.

yes, if 1 more is found. i mean all the vids are up. if 1 other game can be found. then its over.

Edit: more I think on it a wipe would be really bad. basically will hide any other evidence.

I watched a little bit of the 2nd video and stopped after a few sentences, and what I can tell is, he is not ready to come back:

  • Deleting comments that detract from the positivity he's aiming for, is creating an echo chamber, and just ignoring the valid criticism.
  • Not reading the thread because of anxiety, again prevents him from addressing the criticism presented.

If he wants to re-earn the people's trust and respect (that he lost when those runs were discovered), he can never do that if he's only accepting the "Good job Jaypin" messaging. He can only be ready when he no longer hides behind videos where he controls the narrative on them. If this thread gives him anxiety, then he needs to stay away until he is ready to face it. If he feels he needs to delete negative comments on his update videos, then he needs to stay away until he's ready to address them.

Not uploading unlisted videos with "I want to tell you how much I apologise" (whilst never actually saying what he's apologising for, or even being able to utter the words "I'm sorry for doing x".) would be a good step.

The anxiety I can kind of understand, but as someone with terrible anxiety issues, I cannot stand it being used as an excuse to not accepting or facing criticism. It may suck having to read a lot of stuff dissecting every word you said and every action you made, but you gotta own it, friend.

The "path to redemption" he so wants to have a chance of getting requires him to actually be able to accept criticism and stop making excuses. And it's not like people here are telling him he needs to disappear forever or anything - people are merely pointing out the facts that he knew what he was doing, that he knew what he did was wrong that that he only started caring(tm) after he was caught. Sure there are a few posts that could do with some editing or outright removing (the meme ones especially), but those are easily avoidable too. You cannot grow and develop yourself if you refuse to be accountable for your actions. And running away from accountability won't teach you anything, until eventually you make the same bad decisions sometime down the line.

This last line is dedicated to SRC and their mod team so that the underlying subject at hand isn't swept under the rug, and I am outright calling you out on this: Why did you unban someone with 4 proven occasions of stealing someone else's runs? Why did you do so without letting the affected communities know of this? Why are you still allowing said person to mod boards for other games knowing this? Why don't you, SRC, communicate with us? Why don't you let us know who was banned or unbanned and why? The precedent you're setting here is that anyone can get out of jail free if they make puppy eyes and promise to never do [thing] again. The result of that will probably be communities moving away from your website and take their leaderboards elsewhere. And considering the past few months haven't been the best for your website either, those events haven't been as close to happening as they are now... Would you actually release a statement about this or are you just going to hide in the shadows and hope this fizzles out?

I get that he wants to stay away from this thread for his own mental health but @BenInSweden is right...Jaypin has to face his critics eventually or he will never be ready to come back to Sonic.

It's why I've chosen a couple of days ago to just give him breathing space and keep my posts on this situation strictly here from now on and will simply wait for him here. He still will have to answer me on why he feels he has to know who ratted on him since that IS why he antagonized some of the Sonic mods to begin with. And he will have to answer me here in a public space where he cannot just erase the bad away willy nilly like that.

Until he does that much, that new video he posted will just be nothing more than damage control in my eyes and I will not give it the time of day.

@Fioresa no offence but your argument "i only count this as 1 count of cheating not 4" is literally the dumbest thing i have ever seen.

if you're in court for theft, where you stole from 4 different shops, you get charged on 4 counts of theft. wtf are you talking about. i dont think you understand the magnitude of the situation. even if you did, you clearly have some bias going into your argument.
