I think having different class challenges for speedruns in this game would be a great idea. It's hard to imagine how that would look like though, or how many there would be given the several combinations.
But rather than trying to conjure up which categories COULD be ran for this game, I encourage everyone to play the game that is fun or produces a challenge or unique style of gameplay. Creativity for speedruns doesn't come from trying to type up possibilites on a web forum. There shouldn't need to be a list telling you what you can and cannot speedrun.
New categories for games are very easy to add if there are players interested in actually running them! But having too many (especially empty) leaderboards for a single game can become convoluted and overwhelm new players for the community.
Death abusing could potentially be quicker for accomplishing the objective of the game. In general, exploits of glitches and/or bugs are allowed for Any% categories. If this particular bug becomes a strategy where it polarizes the runs in a given category, the orginal category would be renamed to be descriptive of the restriction that is not allowed in a run. Any% will almost always be the category that accomplishes the objective of the game quickest.
I, for one, do not believe this should be allowed. All runs should start the same for everyone at the difficulty selection, and menuing should be part of the timed run. Let me know if and why you disagree with this sentiment and we can further discuss.
This is a good question. Initially, I thought it should have been when we gain control of the monkey after the difficulty selection. However, it may be easier for the runners to start it at the difficulty selection. Re-timing the runs is not a problem for the mod team whichever timing method we settle on!
It's very easy for me to retime all the runs on this webpage if the users can agree which timing method would be more ideal to run with.
This would make it easier for users to be able to time their speedruns. Usually the standard is upon gaing control but perhaps a couple seconds difference is worth it to make it easier for the runner to simultaneously user their timer.
This is a fantastic idea! This is a brand new page in the works and I am still learning about the fangame.
I'm planning to incorporate at least sub-categories for each difficulty right now. And later if the majority of runners choose to run one difficulty instead -- the difficulties will become variables for each category.
@starsmiley To clarify, are we able to remove the "Webgame" tag from Bloons Tower Defense so it is displayed as an official release on the series page? https://www.speedrun.com/btd1
https://www.speedrun.com/avh Can a "Fangame" tag be added to this game for the Bloons series? There has been unprecedented demand for a leaderboard of this game despite not being an official release. Thanks!
Updated the rules to make them more clear, timed all runs to the frame, and fixed the background theme and trophies for the game. I hope you find the page better as well.
For some reason your change messed with the series' background and doesn't take up the whole screen anymore
After some testing, I can confirm that Elizabeth rolling a 2 to luxury tax rather than rolling a 3 to Baltic Ave is 16 frames (0.533 seconds) quicker to end the game.
The question now is if Elizabeth can even roll a 2 on the first move.
This is just a suggestion to mitigate the confusion over timing rules for future runners: the rules need to be more clear.
The rules have a lot of unecessary and confusing information. All the rules need here is something like "Timing starts on the first frame of white text. Timing ends on first frame of garbage can scene."
The top runs that are "tied" are definitely not the same. Given the current timing rules, Paul's run would be a 26.93 and Nester's may be a 27.00 flat. It's difficult to verify since the frame of the trash can without Pennybags isn't present in the youtube video, but his timer does begin 1 frame late.
Also a side note, my run's time was altered to a 25.999: a time that's not even possible to achieve playing a game that runs on 30 FPS, and clearly not a 25. I'll be resubmitting the run as a 26.06.
Thank you for addressing this issue.
Yes, we need to make the timing consistent across all runs on the leaderboard. A few years ago, the timing started at the vault opening which was weirdly specific and didn't make logical sense to the run. I would make sure that runs before this time have been retimed to start on the first frame of the white lettering.
I believe that the timing should end on the garbage can screen and not when Pennybags appears, since we have already lost control by this point anyway.
Also, the No Option Menu timing says it should start after selecting characters instead of gaining control which doesn't make sense either. Both categories should start once you gain control of the menuing in the vault.
@authorblues @RantronBomb Please make this change as soon as humanly possible. The icons being a different size is an embarassment to the Monopoly speedrunning community. It's honeslty hard to look at it at this point.
Hello joe_nonymous.
We instead encourage you to login to your BigC speedrun account, and change your name under: "Settings" > "Username" This way all your runs will be displayed under the same account instead of multiple ones and avoid duplicate users on the leaderboard. Let us know if you have any other questions.
All the best, The bloons moderation team
It has recently came to the moderation team's attention that a handful of new runners are playing a version of the game that is not allowed. This version's character moves much quicker and only needs to collect 399 fish rather than 449 fish to trigger the final screen.
Just a friendly reminder, only runs of the original version of the game by XGen will be accepted.
If an IL leaderboard were to be implemented, something like that is much more likely than individual missions.
