Also would recommend joining the SM64 Speedrunning Discord to ask questions
The rules for emulator explicitly state:
"Timing starts from power on (loading the ROM) or reset (pressing F1) and ends when the big star is collected at the end of the game (the first frame that the star bursts into dust). You cannot use a savestate to restart a run, since any possible savestate would cut off the start of the run. To quickly clear your files in a way that won't invalidate your runs, savestate to a clean file and then press reset.
For exact retiming of EMU runs, the first frame of the Super Mario 64 logo should appear at 1.33 seconds."
You can only use a savestate if you hit reset immediately afterwards
Sorry to bother any speedrunners out there, but I'm curious as to how the blue coin that crashes works in Noki Bay. For some reason, my version of the game has the coin crash but my friend has a copy of the game that does not crash, we both have the game in NTSC-U. Is there a specific reason why this coin crashes, and does it have to do with the number of blue coins collected?
Thanks!
I'm not sure if your reading this or not, but here are plausible omissions for "120 Star"
BoB 4 WF 7 JRB 6 CCM 7 BBH 7 HMC 7 LLL 7 SSL 5 DDD 5 SL 5 WDW 7 TTM 6 THI 7 TTC 7 RR 7
Battle Fort Waterfall Switch Star Moat Switch Star Rainbow Black Brick Dark World Switch Star Fire Sea Switch Star Bowser in the Sky Switch Star Courtyard Reds Sunshine Isles Goomboss Star 1 Goomboss Star 2 King Boo Star 1 King Boo Star 2 Chief Chilly 1 Chief Chilly 2
The star that could replace the other MIPS star could be the Mirror Star since: A. It's effortless compared to MIPS' almost effortless star B. Since Wario is required for some of the stars you will be behind the mirror anyway

I'm new to SM64DS running and really speedrunning in general, is there a certain category to start in or something important to know before running?
