I like the feature of having regions/variables etc. not obsolete each other, but can you make the ranking numbers skip additional runs of the same runner?

I was just too lazy to check for all of the XP runs, if they use glitches or not, I removed the rule about that.

Okay thanks, I removed regions because it makes no sense for a PC game and I added all the times that have a video.

So my run got accepted and it's now #1 by a pretty large margin. I actually think this is kind of silly and that there can be meaningful Solitaire competition and categories, but defining rules can be tricky.

Here's a list of all the tricky subjects I can think of: glitches: The XP version's Ctrl+A is extremely broken and allows for stuff like moving a card that is not at the top of the stack to the stacks in the top-right corner of the field. This would make it by far the fastest version, if they hadn't added this from Vista on: hints: Just spamming T and Enter repeatedly will let you "solve" the game and the only skill is how fast you can mash and cheating via scripts would be easy and undetectable. It seems to be just slightly slower than the best XP run with glitches at http://www.solitaire-ranking.org/. doubleclicking: The established leaderboard at http://www.solitaire-ranking.org/ allows you to rebind your mouse keys to other effects, this includes making your rightclick behave as a doubleclick, which many players used to increase the speed of going through the stack while holding Ctrl+A saving them seconds. 99% of speedrunners would probably call this a light form of scripting, but it would not be fair to brush off the rules of a long-standing community as cheating. manipulating the seed: The game you get is based on the system clock and so you can have multiple goes at the same memorized board by just setting your system time to the desired value (at least up to XP, Vista and later versions may be different). http://www.solitaire-ranking.org/ actually acknowledges this as cheating, but at the same time their rules state that it cannot be detected. That several of the top times are achieved on the same board makes me sceptical that this rule was actually followed.

My personal opinion is that there should be two categories: One where you can do all of the things I just listed, that is just silly, but deserves to exist to show off the fastest way to beat it without invalidating old runs. And one, where all of them are banned, that is close to how it was meant to be played (this one maybe seperated into Draw 1 and Draw 3, although I think a variable suffices). From my (few, inconclusive) tests it seems as though the Windows 7 version at least is not as easily manipulatable. It has to be determined which versions have good RNG generation and only they should be allowed (for this category).

EDIT: Any why are there regions and why does real-time start at a different instant than ingame time and why should there even be two timings?

I don't know how this got approved. There are already established leaderboards at minesweeper.info. The people who run this board on this site seem to have no clue about the game. The version that comes with Windows is very bad for serious attempts, because it's easy to cheat on, the community made otherwise identical clones that are harder to cheat on and track the time more accurately. Forcing people to play on a bad version is just silly. Also it's community standard that the 8x8 beginner board is played and not the 9x9 one. I say delete this board and ask at minesweeper.info, if they want to set up a board here themselves or import the database or sth.

Here is what it says when you submit a run: "If this is left blank, we will assume it's the same as the time with loads" and that is not true anymore and it should be like that again, because time with loads is always slower than time without loads and so it makes no sense to rank 1:30 with loads lower than 2:00 without loads. EDIT: mixed the numbers up

" Oh cool, that is pretty useful then, though I think additional shown times should not influence the ranking of those below (e.g. being #4 when only 2 people have a better time).

Sorting by time without loads is broken now. It ignores runs that only have a time with loads instead of assuming the time without loads to be the same as I think it did previously.

Also here: http://www.speedrun.com/bar/individual_levels It shows times that are by default filtered on the individual boards. The same is true when looking at the profile of a runner, there's no indication that the run is filtered. EDIT: Same is true for e.g. Xiah's 70 stars time being listed as 5th in his profile although in the standard settings of the board he is 4th.

On the sm64 16 stars board, if you allow all consoles, it lists both Alex's wiivc and n64 pb as 3rd and 4th at once.

It doesn't show somebody's best run with a specific variable value selected anymore, when the runner has a better time with a different variable value.

I'm absolutely against this. a) Sellouts will definitely abuse this to read donation comments and greet subs during runs. Some WR videos are bad enough as it is, but if it ever comes to the point that some asshat literally pauses his game to give some epic reaction to the "#1 donator being bopped" and then go on to claim WR, I support the death penalty for that. b) If it was allowed, I would definitely abuse this at same later level in the game to get some last minute practice in on hard tricks like the walljump at the end of SMB1. Yes, it would be worth it. And don't even bother coming up with some arbitrary "you can only pause once every x minute for y minutes" or "you will get an x seconds penalty per pause" rules.

An encoded recording is already compressed, putting into an archive will do almost nothing.

Matching a run with a username doesn't work anymore. It works for a moment, but when you visit the page again, it stays unmatched.

maybe a low%/max% sorting method that prioritizes % over time?

it would be cool to be able to differ between 0 and "unknown", many people just cut off the seconds or their decimal places and that disadvantages people who time their runs accurately and there's also no way to differ between 1.XXX seconds and actual 1.000 seconds or 1:00 and 1:XX on the leaderboard, unknown would then just be interpretated as the largest possible value for sorting purposes

I understand not wanting to cause harm to other communities, but I like the idea of a central place for all own PBs and all WRs. The least aggressive way I know would be to have just the WR for each game/category and a link to the complete leaderboard below it and have user PBs show up in their profile only. A bit more aggressive would be the same, but showing all user-submitted PBs.

Either way a way to display all your PBs on your profile in an unmoderatored fashion for any invented category would be nice to have.
