Note on livesplit one. Browsers can detect gamepad input even when not in focus so you can control it in game with any spare gamepad keys available. I wonder if theres any program like reWASD available on gnulinux that can remap keyboard inputs into gamepad presses. That would essentailly make it controllable without focus.

The vast,vast majority of mods do not fall into the behavior you're describing, making it largely a non-issue. In a practical standpoint, there isn't an alternative even if it was desirable. We would be hard pressed to find people willing to, free of charge, moderate the tens of thousands of different games and verify runs if those people did not have in interest in the speedrun for that game.

1. I think most people just use each boss as a split, I don't have my splits anymore but they shouldnt be too hard to make since its only like 5 bosses for the splits.
2. No autosplitter exists.

Seems like a great update. The ability to follow friends is a massive upgrade imo. The issues I see are the cover arts being cropped if there is no portrait game cover, and the last login not being visible, which seems important when people are trying to contact a moderator who hasnt been active for a long time.

Some catrgories are just too long to complete so ive seen some rules put in place that allow for the runner to take a break in the middle of the run. What games have you seen with these breaks? About how long of a typical run do you think warrants a break rule?

Is there a way to setup livesplit to create a video file or something like that for a run that has already been completed to be edited into the video of the run? Essentially allowing me to frame perfectly make my splits on a video file.

The standard is to use a program called LiveSplit, but no, you don't need a timer to submit a speedrun, you can always get the time from seeing the video itself but counting the frames.

Since DS games have two screens for gameplay, I've seen most people create a layout like this: https://ibb.co/YBKN65d Where there is one dominant screen that shows the most important part of the gameplay and the second screen being smaller off to the side. Typically this is all that is needed since usually DS games really only utilize 1 screen for gameplay on the other for menu options and such. However some games swap between which screen would be the dominant one through the run, which if the layout is not changed, the important gameplay will be shown on the smaller screen. So my question is this: If you were a mod for a DS game, would you accept a run that during the recording swapped which was the dominant screen in the layout some number of times during the run? What would be your concerns if doing so either way?

I like to run rogue like games, or any game where each run would be unique due to RNG, such as card games.

I simply don't understand the idea that having something like ThatGuyYouFollowed submitted a new PB in ThisGame - Any% - PC. Their new PB is 5m 12s - 1 day ago also in my notifications would be somehow some be all that different than what we have now, or somehow be so transformative to the site that it now seen as a social media website.

I played and beat the original game, nice to see some upgrades to the system with the throwing stars and health spawns.

I don't understand the claims that getting notifications when particular people have submitted a new run would turn this site into a social media site.

I'm interested in doing some long speedruns, but I would like to have on my second monitor something like a power point presentation with information about my route that I can switch slides even when the program doesnt have focus like livesplit does. Even better if I could map this to a gamepad key.
