Hello there! I finished my first guide yesterday, I hope you liked it :) Anyways, onto the second level, Solar Autumn Mountain!
Before I get into it, here's something I found that is very interesting. As I said in the previous guide, using long jumps and dives is the fastest way to move. However, one of them is better that the other. Can you guess?
By using a slight modification to the code, we can see that, as expected, normal jumps give us an average speed of 7.
Second, we can see that long jumps give as a speed of 8 as well.
However, the dive is where things get interesting. Since dives can't be performed on the ground, the best alternative is to jump, then dive when Mario's in the air. Note that long jumps last until Mario hits the ground, so we can't dive before Mario lands back down. However, we can chain long jumps into a dive if Mario jumps to a lower ledge, even if it's very slightly lower. You see this by holding right and down at the start of Cosmic Plains. Chaining long jumps with dives is the best way of moving, but chaining normal jumps with dives can be used in more situations. It also gives an average speed of about 8.85:
This means that chaining jumps with dives is about 10.6% faster that long jumping. This is why you should never use long jumps unless absolutely required. I just found that out today. :)
I thought about finishing this guide today, but I guess I can't :((( I'll probably finish it later, so see you then!
CB09 gave us the first sub 9 in SMFS4 History. I don't have anything else to add here, congratulations CB09. Typo in title oops
